Thrown in was a whimpering, shaking, figure. Looking closer, I saw it was a man, with broad shoulders and a large back. As I realized who it was, I went on high alert.
"Cal?!"

He let out a strangled sound. I began to rise to my feet, eager to help him. As soon as I rose to one knee, the sounder went off in my head. I toppled, rolling on the ground in pain. Cal moves toward me in my peripheral, but I can't focus for long. The sounder screams in my head and I scream with it.

Cal shouts my name, but it sounds like he's speaking from under a pillow. He rushes towards me, his hand under my hip the other cradling my head. His mouth opens and his neck muscles tense as he releases all of his anger out. He shouts at Maven, all he's done, he curses his brother, and the dead queen, and everything they've done.

And then I realize what Maven is doing. Despite the sounder ripping through my head, I know. He will torture us each in turn, in his sick, twisted way. If the sounder is turned on me, Cal gets to watch it. If Cal writhes in my arms because he can't hear himself think through the sounder, I get to watch. And that makes me angry. I'm angry that Maven brought Cal here, when he said he wouldn't.  That he lied, and twisted and turned. Anyone can betray anyone indeed.

My mind clears and Cal stops cradling me. Now that I don't have the sounder dragging  my mind down, I can more fully comprehend my burning hate for Maven. But I feel something more...I can feel it rising in my veins, but it can't be. I must be hallucinating. Yes-this is merely some cruel joke of Maven's. But I can feel it. My lightning calls to me, and I rise. I'm standing over Cal, straddling him. He moans on the ground and the sound of his pain merely ignites my anger.

I glare at the camera in the corner of the room. It sparks and dies. I prowl toward the door.

Maven doesn't know what he's done. He has created a monster. And she has just been set free. I glance back at Cal. The sounder has stopped, but he is unconscious. He will be safer here anyway.

Standing in front of the door, I prepare myself. And then I let go. Shadows dance as my lightning incinerates the door. The guards outside my door startle. They frantically fumble around for their weapons, but they're dead before they even had a chance. I move down the hall, obliterating anyone who dares get in my way.
