Well, it happened. England was just too paranoid. He couldn't let both the North America brothers hang around Hogwarts with no supervision concerning their status as countries. So he'd gone and done it. Not that England regretted the choice, it was just that he knew it could very well backfire. Having 3 large and powerful countries' personification in one place that isn't a world meeting could prove very dangerous if the protection wasn't adequate. And for all of Hogwarts' protection spells and wards, it still wasn't properly protected enough for England's liking. But he'd done it anyway. He'd applied for a position as Muggle Studies teacher, giving Charity Burbage a well-deserved vacation. Why Muggle Studies? Well, England could do that easily, living with them, and indeed being as he was a creation of them in a way. Also, he couldn't well do anything else since most of his expertise in magic was in the dark arts. As soon as he had arrived at his room and had completely unpacked, he immediately called up Hannah Annafellows; or at least the being who was was known by that name to humanity. Her true name was as yet a mystery. She was a demon who had worked in England mainly during the Victorian era, but she'd been on the down low ever since a scandal of sorts involving one of the noblemen of the land- an earl, as England was dimly able to recall. She'd done work for him before, and she knew that she couldn't- physically couldn't- take his soul since he was a country. However, her compensation, as England himself had chosen, was agreed on as causing a national disaster. The Great Fire of London? Yeah, Hannah caused that. South Sea company's collapse? That was her too. But this is straying from the true nature of our story. Anyways, Hannah was brought forth to watch over the twins; ironically, this could have been England's worst mistake. She left immediately after he gave her the instructions. England quickly covered up all signs of the dark magic, removing the pentagram and candles as fast as he could. Then he found that he was late to his own class. Rushing, England found himself unable to enter the room because of the mass of students blocking the door. Bloody hell, he really was late. Calmly, England walked through the large group and unlocked the door.
"Greatest apologies. Don't worry, none of you are late. Now, to business. The people who've been here longer may be wondering as to why I am here in place of your previous teacher, Charity Burbage. I have taken over her position for a semester to give her a vacation. Now that that's over, to business." England, to the great surprise to the few pure-bloods in the room, pulled out a laptop. Despite the fact that magic generally interfered with electricity, England had modified his laptop (by which I mean he messed around with it using spells until it worked) so that it could be used at Hogwarts. As for the projector, it was just radio waves that got messed up, and not even them that much (don't forget the radio in the Weasly home). So it was to the great surprise of quite a number of students when England presented the syllabus on a PowerPoint. Hermione especially looked simply incredulous.
"Professor," she said, "I thought magic interfered with electricity too much to do that." England simply looked at her.
"Well then, consider the use of computers in this class a further venture into the lives of muggles. Magic is strictly forbidden in this class from here on, and I have a barrier in place that's much similar to how 7th years can learn apparition in the great hall. It's inverse of that, of course, so magic cannot interfere with our technology." And to everyone's confusion, England handed everyone a smartphone and a laptop. (Remember: this was in the '90s,)
"These are exclusively for use during class," said England. Finally, he started the lecture which was, of course, about Muggle technology . Out of the corner of his eye, England noticed Canada. He wondered to himself how he'd overlooked the northern nation until now. To his pleasure, he saw that Canada had struck up a conversation with Hermione. He didn't bother calling them out as they would, of course, already know all about this whole topic. He was just a little surprised she'd noticed him. Even his brother forgot who Canada was; strangers rarely even sensed his presence. England put that out of his mind as he spoke, making great effort to avoid looking at any of the 7th year girls, many of which seemed to be looking at him oddly. No matter. As the class came to a close, England cleared the room of any remnants his students left. He sighed deeply. Had taking this position been a mistake? He'd have to call on Hannah- perhaps his presence would invalidate the need for her services. Quietly, in his heart, England hoped this possibility would come to fruition.
A/N: I was going to do a fourth wall break here, but one commenter pointed out that it's a cliché topic that happens far too often, and I didn't even know where it was going myself, so I cut it. Please vote and comment if you liked it! If you didn't, uh, sorry? Update: if you got an update, sorry. There was a spelling error that I noticed that I had to fix. Don't worry; I haven't abandoned this. I'll update before December.
