Why Run?

Chapter 5

Once we finished our lunch willow started heading back to her house. I followed. I wanted to know where she lived so I can go back to her. Once she was in I hid quietly behind a bush waiting and listening with my wolf ears. I could just make out what they were saying

Male voice: where were you?

Willow: I was out catching some deer the other day but then I um got shot with dart thingo and I had fainted for two days, so then when I woke up I found myself in the forest alone and I came back home.

Male voice: well you should have come home earlier when you had the chance. Did you catch anything at least?

Willow: err yes I did, but when I fainted I think someone picked it up and took it away. Cause when I woke up it was gone.

Male voice: go out again and catch a deer for supper.

Willow: ok

I then heard footsteps and ran for my life to the cave. I lay down so she would think I was sleeping and stayed still. "Hey Vicky, my dad told me to catch a deer wanna come." I pricked my ears before she spoke and fake yawned. I then shifted "ok let's go" I followed her outside and we hunted for what seemed like an hour till we found one in grazing in a clearing.

I shifted back into my wolf and stalked it. I grabbed it and bit on its neck. I then went limp and then I knew I had killed it. I carried it back in my mouth, then I shifted. "Why did you do that for?" She asked "what? I thought you told me to catch it, so I did." She shook her head.

"With those bite marks in it my dad would think I had just found it and attacked it from a wolf." I was confused "yeah so-" she interrupted "which means I won't get dinner." What the hell was she talking about. "My dad told me that if I and only I catch and kill a deer on my own instead of finding it, I would get dinner." Oh now I get it.

"Now, let's find another one." We stood up. I dragged the deer with us in wolf form. 'Look there's one!' I mind-linked her. She held up her gun and BANG it still rang in my ears as I headed home to put my deer away.

I went to her house with her. We walked and talked till we arrived. Once we were there I hid in the same bush in wolf form listening to her conversations.
