NICK’S POV
“You just let her go?” I asked frowning at my parents. How could they have let Nicole move out? I needed her here.
“Nicholas,” Mom said with a frown. “We didn’t want her to leave either, but she wants to get to know her biological family. She has every right. You’ll still see her in school. And she promised to come for Sunday night dinners as well.” I growled and punched the wall again.
“And if you dent the wall one more time you’re paying for the repairs,” Dad warned before heading to bed with mom.
“What’s your problem Nick?” Joe asked with a chuckle. I turned a glare on him. This was his fault! He was the one who had introduced Nicole to her stupid older brother.
“How could you do this?” I asked. “How could you let her go away?”
“I don’t have control over Nicole and neither do you,” Joe snapped.
“She was supposed to find them, and then realize how much better we are. How much better I am. I’m her brother damn it!”
“No, Nick,” Joe said coldly. “You’re not. None of us are. She’s a beautiful girl who deserves to find herself.”
“She’s your sister Joe.”
“Do you think I’m a complete idiot? I know you are in love with her. Stop chastising me for seeing her as someone other than our sister when you have feelings for her.” I froze. Joe couldn’t mean. No way.
“Joe?” I asked stepping closer. “Do you have feelings for Nicole?”
“I like Nicole. She’s special to me!” Joe shouted angrily.
“Wow,” I said softly. “I never thought we would be fighting over our own sister.”
“Except she’s not our sister,” Joe reminded me.
“So what do we do?” I asked plunking down next to him.
“The same thing we’ve always done when we both liked the same girl. Let her decide who she wants.”
“Okay, but we do it fair and square,” I said holding out my hand. “Whoever she chooses the other guy will back down.” Joe quickly shook my hand agreeing to the terms. Now I just had to convince Nicole that I was the one for her. I watched as Joe sauntered away whistling. He was acting as if he had already won. What did I miss here?
