DAVID’S POV [AN: FYI. In this story David is much older. Like early twenties older. So is Chelsea.]
I walked into my apartment only to hear a sound that was entirely foreign to me. The giggle of teenage girls. I set down my laptop case and walked into the living room. Chelsea was sitting on the couch surrounded by Nicole and what I assumed were two of her friends from school.
“David!” Chelsea said with a smile standing up to greet me. “You’re finally home. Nicole invited some friends over to spend the night. I know it’s the middle of a school week, but I said it was okay. I figured they can help her settle in more.” I leaned in to kiss Chelsea before greeting my sister and her friends. My sister. It felt good to say it again. I didn’t talk about Nicole much because it used to hurt too much. Mom had gone to the hospital pregnant and returned home without a baby. I never had a chance to meet her until now.
“Holy crap!” the one who introduced herself as Selena said. “You two look so much alike. If he wasn’t older I would say he’s your twin. I never did think Nick looked like you anyways.” I watched as Nicole winced. She hadn’t spoken to me much about the Jonas’.
“Mom…I mean Mrs. Jonas always said we were fraternal twins,” Nicole whispered. I watched Nicole as her friends changed the topic. She never did talk about Nick. She had mentioned at least every other Jonas at least once, but not Nick. I excused myself and walked into the kitchen to find something to eat. It was only seconds before I heard Chelsea walk into the room.
“Why do you think she doesn’t talk about Nick?” Chelsea asked.
“I don’t know,” I said closing the fridge. “Should we just order pizza for dinner? I don’t know what you feed teenage girls.”
“Pizza is fine. David, focus. Nicole talks about everyone, but barely says a word about Nick. Why?”
“She’s protecting him,” I said without thinking. I looked over at Chelsea realizing that my momentary outburst was correct. “Nick is special to her. Important to her. She was raised thinking he was her twin. She’s going to be protective of that relationship.”
“I think she likes him,” Chelsea said. I groaned at her before slumping into a dining room chair. “Chels, I just got my sister back. I am slowly learning to traverse the mind of a teenage girl. Could you please not create drama where there isn’t any?”
“I seriously think she is interested in Nick,” she said sitting on my lap. “But I wonder about that Joe guy. He seems pretty serious about her as well. I think you should ask him about his intentions just to be sure.”
“And why would I do that?”
“Because you’re her brother, and you have to look out for her. It’s what brothers do.”
“You don’t have any brothers so why are you suddenly the expert on what brothers should do?” Chelsea leaned in kissing me and effectively distracting me from my thoughts. She was right. I had noticed Joe’s interest as well as Nicole’s interest in Nick. I kissed Chelsea back until I heard someone entering the kitchen.
“Whoa,” Nicole said with a laugh. “Calm down on the PDA guys. My friends are just in the other room.”
“Sorry, sis,” I said pulling away from Chelsea. I watched as Nicole stared at us longingly. “Are you okay?”
“I just—how did you know Chelsea was the one?” Nicole asked fidgeting.
“I didn’t at first,” I admitted honestly. “But then she was offered this job overseas, and I realized I couldn’t let her leave. That’s when I knew.”
“Huh,” Nicole said softly still watching us nervously. “I think the girls and I are going to go upstairs until dinner.” I nodded watching her walk from the room. I nuzzled my face into Chelsea’s neck.
“Tell me I’m a good brother,” I said.
“You’re a good brother,” Chelsea said holding me close. “Teenage girls are confusing. You’ll figure it all out in time.”
“And if I don’t?”
“That’s why you have me.” I smiled as I kissed her once again. It was going to take time, but I would figure it out. Teenage girls couldn’t be that hard to understand. I hope.
[AN: Eh…not my best chapter, but I did get to daydream about David Henrie some. So pretty. (drools)]
