The light turned red. Blood was covering the backseat of the car. Kuro’o’s breathing was slowing down, his vision fading in and out. Panic was starting to bubble up in Kyoko because she didn’t know if she was going to make in time. The hospital came into view as more crimson blood spilled from the deep wounds that were on his already scarred body. “Just a little longer. Please hold on for me,” she said quietly, jamming her foot on the gas pedal. The car sped up even more, and the two arrived in the ER section of the hospital. Doctors started crowding around when Kyoko got out of the car, the chief of surgery being the first person there.
“Chief, er, Dr. Kurosaki, what brings you here?” the surgeon asked, pleased that Kyoko was back at the old hospital where she use to work at.
Kyoko looked at the woman. “There is a person in my car about to die. Get me a stretcher, an available trauma room and an O.R. ASAP,” she instructed.
She may have seemed calm and composed, but in reality every passing minute added an extra dose of fear and worry. The stretcher arrived within a minute, and Kyoko gently pulled out Kuro’o. He was still conscious, but he felt that he was going to fall unconscious any minute. She got him onto it, and started running inside while pushing the stretcher right past the ER.
Kuro’o looked up to see her beautiful face, maybe for the last time. “Kyoko, I love you… don’t ever… forget me...” he said before passing out from the lack of blood.
She had managed to slip a kiss on his cheek while he was talking to her. When he had fallen unconscious, the tears had returned. They fell freely form Kyoko’s ocean blue eyes as she, along with other surgeons, got into the elevator. The elevator hummed to life, going up to the surgical floor. She anxiously drummed her fingers on the head of the bed while the other doctors hooked up a heart monitor and an IV line to Kuro’o.
The doors finally opened, and the cluster of surgeons ran to the available OR. While the nurses prepped Kuro’o for surgery, Kyoko scrubbed her hands. There was a window from the scrubbing room to see the OR, and it wasn’t soundproof either. When the surgeon looked up to put her surgical cap on, the heart monitor showing that he was crashing, making a very loud and quick beeping sound. She hurried up even more. “I’m going to lose him…!”
