They were lying in the small hospital bed together; Kyoko curled up against him and Kuro’o’s arms around her, holding her close. She realized that there was a slight problem to their situation: her beloved genius surgeon was supposed to be dead, and the hospital people knew that he was still alive.
“You’re supposed to be dead,” she started, “and the hospital people know that you’re still alive,” He sighed, closing his eyes.
“I know. I’ve thought about it, and you’ll have to temporarily kill me off,” he told her quietly. Kyoko looked up at him, confusion written all over her face.
“How am I going to kill you and then bring you back?” she asked, not wanting him to die once more.
“There’s a special kind of flower called rhododendron that, by boiling it in water and extracting the solution, you can make a chemical called grayanotoxine. It stops your cardiovascular system for a couple of hours, causing you to literally die and come back to life," he informed her.
Kyoko stayed quiet. She knew that this was the only option that they had; yet the idea of him dying again was one that she didn't want to accept.
"So after you're.... Dead, I wait a bit the get you at the morgue, right?" He nodded, "yes, that's what I was thinking. Then you would have to drag me to your car and take me somewhere where no one would find us. Preferably your old house," he added, the pain returning and showing on the expression in his face.
Kyoko saw his face, and got up to put what she thought was the appropriate dose of morpheme in his IV. Little did she know that she had put a bit too much in.
