The night felt like it would never end as Genovefa lay on her bedroll, tossing and turning, her mind racing with so many worries.

Where was Balor? What was her mother doing? Would she survive? Where was his son?

She gave a grunt of annoyance and sat up. She couldn't do this! She needed sleep but her thoughts refused to leave her, stressing her out. She found herself halting her thoughts and trying to focus on the commotion in the next tent to the left. It was where Fallon sat with her ailing son. He was crying. Fallon was trying to soothe him.

Genovefa let out a sigh. She worried about the young boy herself. She got up and left her to tent to visit them. When she was out of the shelter of the deerskin walls, she shivered. Already she missed her warm bedroll. Shaking off the cold air, she hurried into their tent to find Fallon cradling her son and petting his head, her cheek pressed to his head.

Tears were in her eyes as she sang softly a lullaby of old. Genovefa sat in front of them and reached out. She rested her hand on his burning forehead. The boy looked at her, his eyes glazed with fever, his body shaking violently. Tears streamed down his pale face. Sweat covered his skin.

Whispers filled her mind. A warm sensation filled her being. The boy began to glow a golden light as she began to sing, her voice now sounding with many:

"Hush, now, brave warrior.
Your pure heart will live.
You are a chosen one.
You will become legend.
With a body as strong
As a mountain.
With a voice as powerful
As a stormy wind.
With a heart as
Pure as gold.
You will go on to be
A great man.
Hush, now, brave warrior.
You are loved
And will live."

The light faded and the boy sniffed as Fallon stared at the both of them in shock and awe. There was a brief moment of silence as the warmth faded from her body and the whispers disappeared.

It was broken when the boy looked up at Fallon. "Momma, what just happened? All of the pain is gone."

It took a moment to register in his mother's mind. She drew in a shuddering breath as her face twisted into a fight against tears. She failed instantly and hugged him tightly as she began sobbing. "Oh, my baby! You are safe!"

Genovefa was moved by the scene as she tried to figure out what had just happened. Was that the power of the gods? she thought as she looked at her hand. There was a faint glow of the golden light left. She smiled. If it was them, she could use their power to help people as she fought for her own survival.

She lifted her gaze to the mother and child. Yes, that was what she would do. She wanted to see more happy moments like this. Her heart squeezed with joy.

Some time passed before the boy fell asleep and Fallon had calmed down. She thanked Genovefa over and over. She hugged her so tightly that the poor girl couldn't breathe. When she let her go, Genovefa coughed a bit. Fallon wiped more tears away. "Oh, my dear girl, thank you so much! I owe you so much for this. You are a godsend! Praise the gods above!" She raised her hands to the sky and let out a breath of relief.

Genovefa couldn't help but smile and let out a snort of amusement. "You are welcome, dear Fallon. I am happy to help."

"I wonder if that was a prophecy you sang."

"Huh?"

"Those words had to be! Oh, my boy, you are special!" She kissed his forehead happily.

Genovefa felt a bit jealous. She missed having a doting mother and father. Speaking of which, where was his father? She felt it wasn't her place to ask and so bit back the enticing words. Fallon led her out after a while of petting her son's messy hair. "We must speak about this prophecy with the others."
