"Mummy, how many stars are in the sky?" A young brunette boy asked his mother at night as they gazed out the window.
This was a regular tradition for them. Every night they would pull up their chairs and look out the big window in the front of the house. They would point out constellations and the biggest star in the sky.
"I don't know, Niall, why don't you try to count and find out?" The mother laughed as she said this, not actually believing that he could count all the stars in the sky.
"Okay, I will." And then he started counting, having to start over and over again.
Niall was eventually sent to bed, he did have school tomorrow. But he couldn't rest now, so he stayed awake all night trying to count the stars in the sky. In the morning he was exhausted and he hadn't counted all the stars.
And each night the counting built up from stars. First stars. Then pebbles on the road. Then scuff marks on the tile floors in school. And so on until he was basically counting everything in sight.
