"Niall James Horan!"
"What do you want!?"
"You need to sleep, your first day of school is tomorrow."
Then Mum shut off the light and walked out, honestly expecting me to sleep. But now I can't and she probably knows that. Once I've started, I can't stop. I need to continue until I finally figure out how many stars are in the sky.
Nevertheless, I lied down in bed staring at the ceiling. I counted how many chips were in the paint, and how many times a certain object makes noise. I even counted the minutes until I had to wake up.
My mum walked in to wake me up, right as I had counted the 240th minute. You see, counting helps me. Even if others don't see it.
I dragged myself out of bed groggily, groaning all the way. I threw on a white v-neck and grey sweats, with some converse and a denim jacket. I didn't even bother to do my hair today, just too tired.
There were dark bags under my eyes and I had terrible morning breath. And I didn't even get to count all the stars!
Anyway, I grabbed a granola bar for breakfast and started walking to school. My mom used to drive me but then I started counting the cracks in the street and I couldn't count them all in the car.
So today, I count 507 cracks in the street from my house to the school. So that's settled, there are exactly 507 cracks in the road from my house to the school. Doesn't mean I'll stop though.
As I walked through the doors, I could hear the uproar of students greeting each other after the long summer. The girls squealed, 48 times to be exact, and the guys exchanged bro-hugs, 57 to be exact.
I finally got to my locker, locker 439, in the junior hallway. The junior hallway was where the junior homerooms and classrooms were. I'm assuming that all my classes will be on this floor.
I placed my backpack on one of the shelves and went to the Dean of Juniors office. The Dean was basically the supervisor of all junior events, communications, and disciplinary actions/precautions.
I gently knocked on the door 5 times, like I have to do every time before I enter any room.
"Come in." A deep voice boomed through the door. He sounds scary, so I know I won't be intentionally getting in trouble.
I slowly creaked open the door and walk through to see a scary-looking man. Buff, dark beard, menacing eyes. He looked like he wanted to kill me, just hoping he doesn't.
"Niall Horan, correct?" His gruff voice sounded, startling me slightly.
"Uh, y-yes." I squeaked.
"Take a seat, I have some things to tell you."
I nervously sat down in one of the leather chairs. Normally I would be very comfortable in a chair like this, but his aura seriously threw me off.
"Welcome to East Leicester High School, the number one school in Leicester. The courses you will have to take for the next to years in order to pass are: music, art, history, chemistry, English, calculus, and drama. Usually students get to fill out what classes they would like per semester, but you were not at the school so your classes have been decided for you. You will get to choose from next semester and onwards. Here is your timetable," He handed me a color-coated piece of paper. "By the end of the day, you will need to go to the tech office to receive your laptop that the school has provided. Any questions?"
"Nope, all clear."
"Then get what you need for your first couple of classes and go."
I stood up and quickly rushed out of the office, accidentally slamming into someone and I heard a high-pitched 'oof' as they hit the floor.
"I am so sorry." I apologized as I helped them up.
Wow.
