The One With Life

"Dude, are you telling me that the words 'gum is perfection' actually came out of your mouth?" Joey asked Chandler, shaking his head, "Why? Why would you do that?"

"I don't know okay, Joe? I was lost and confused and gum..well..she IS perfection," Chandler sighed, getting up and kicking at the couch.

"Chandler, love, don't kick yourself over this. I'm sure she found it cute," I smiled sheepishly, rubbing his shoulder with a thumb as he neared me.

He grimaced, leaning against the chair behind us and setting his head on my shoulder, "Cute. Oh how I just LOVE being called that, " he mumbled sarcastically.

I shrugged him off my shoulder, moving towards the couch with the bowl of popcorn in my hand. "You know sarcasm is the lowest form of wit." I glared back at him, passing Joey a smile as I took a seat next to him.

"Oh oh, but it IS the highest form of intelligence." He pointed out, running both his hands through his hair. I rolled my eyes, crossing my legs up on the couch as Chandler took a seat next to me.

Joey patted me on the knee as I placed the popcorn between us. "Mon, Rach, come on the movie is starting" I yelled to them as each instantly came out of his room. Rachel had a different aura about her, rosier cheeks, she looked good.

In case you're wondering, I was still crashing in Rachel's room who was now living with Monica and paying half of her rent while I remained jobless. It's been about a month now and I was near giving up on searching for a job. I mean I did have a degree in Dietetics but I had basically 0 experience. And well, people were a tough crowd these days.

"Alright, you all ready?" I asked as I picked up the remote from the table, hovering a finger over the play button.

"As ready as I'll ever be," Rach smiled, settling down on the floor in front of me.

Just then, we heard the door fling open behind us and we all turned. It was Ross.

"Hi." he started glumly.

"Wow. That is not a happy hi."

"Yeah, love, is everything alright?" I frowned, now sitting up on the couch facing him.

"Carol's pregnant."

We all blinked at him. My heart instantly started aching. Why would something so terrible happen to such a good guy? After being dumped by his wife after she finds out she is a lesbian, she is now pregnant with his baby. I was dumbfounded; I didn't know what to say so instead I remained silent.

"W-w-wh-... wha-... w-w-w-..." Monica wasn't in a better condition, stammering there like a lost puppy.

"Yeah. Do that for another two hours, you might be where I am right about now."

"Well now, how-how do you fit into this whole thing?" Rachel asked, nearing him slowly as she guided him over to the couch.

"Well, Carol says she and Susan want me to be involved, but if I'm not comfortable with it, I don't have to be involved.. basically it's entirely up to me." I move aside to let him grumpily slump down on the couch beside me.

"She is so great! I miss her." Phoebe sighed, fiddling with the countless rings on her fingers. I glanced at her, blinking. I looked over at everyone else, who seem to have ignored her improper comment. Guess I wasn't used to her yet...
