October 15

A week away at the cabin is what we need Mia thought to herself. As she pulled out of her driveway in her blue mini-van, Checking her rear view mirror she spotted her son Nick hunched over furiously tapping away at his tablet. Mia stopped next to their mailbox it was an exact replica of their home it now sported a thick web with spiders cascading down the side it was new this year, her house was always decorated for Halloween - why not the mailbox too. Mia turned around and looked at Nick and said hey, your going to break your tablet if you keep playing with it like that. Nick huffed, Mom its the only way i can beat this level. Mia continued to look at Nick.Giving in Nick looked up slow and with a smirk said "ok, mom i wont, please stop staring at me your freaking me out." she smiled.

Pulling away from the curb Mia thought how Nick was a perfect blend of both herself and Jackson. Nicks hair was a blend of her brown and Jackson's blonde his almond shaped eyes came from Mia the color a perfect shade of green from Jackson. Thinking of Jackson Mia pulled into the gas station to fill up and call him. He was in the city again its becoming a regular thing all these business trips. Mia was almost certain that Jackson was seeing someone but she hadn't confronted him she was still in love but recently found her self withholding sex just in case he was banging random bitches. While pumping the gas Mia thought about how they were going to work things out this weekend. She went to pay the gas and picked up ice for the cooler she pulled into a parking spot to fill the cooler and grabbed her cell and called Jackson. After the forth ring she hung up he was probably in a meeting she wasn't going to stress herself. Buckling up she said now off to pick up grandma Rose Nick shouted yes!

The ride was uneventful Nick sneezed a few times and Mia made a mental note to keep an eye out for more symptoms. Pulling up beside the two family home where her mother resided Mia realized her mother was already waiting at the front gate. Mia parked and got out to grab her moms bags. Mom, how long have you been waiting out here? Mia asked. Oh not long i like the fresh air. her mother responded.

Nothing seemed to bother Rose Sanchez a strong women with Venezuelan roots although she came to America with her parents when she was young she has no accent and her Spanish was average at best but she has always been proud of her heritage and tried to pass that on to Mia her only daughter.

As soon as she sat down she handed Nick a cookie the size of his head- well almost the size of his head Thanks grandma, Nick exclaimed. Yea, thanks mom Mia said tartly Oh come on the boy needs sweets not all that health food stuff all the time.

The chatting ensued about the weather and the news about a strange illness where people had amnesia, its frightening Rose said im worried. Mia responded, well you said California were in New York, far away, don't worry, Mom.

The conversation moved on to her knitting club and her crazy neighbor Mr. Roberts who wears tube socks and boxers outside even in October to water his plants that are dead. How can i invite the girls over to knit what if they see him?" "Mom, I think they will think its funny besides it might make your knitting group less boring."

Meanwhile, in the back of the van Nick took a break from his game. He looked up and asked Mom, can i get a drink from the cooler?

Sure there's also Pb&j with the crust cut off in your lunch box, its next to the cooler. As Nick reached in to grab his milk he saw the wind was strong bending the trees a ribbon flew by it was red and blue FOR SALE was printed large and as Nick let the cooler lid shut he continued to follow the ribbon where it was stuck on a wooden telephone pole the wind died down and the ribbon began to fall two men were standing near the telephone pole one behind and one slightly ahead embracing but it was kind of odd as if the man in front was being held against his will and as Nick tried to get a better look the light turned green. Shrugging his shoulders he took a big bite out of his sandwich. Mia looked at him in her rear view Is your sandwich good? Uh..,Yea. he sat back and ate his sandwich sipped his milk and eventually returned to his game and never mentioned the odd scene.

After arriving at the cabin Mia noticed a missed call from Jackson and that Nick looked tired his nose was running and as he lifted his arm to wipe his nose Mia shouted hey grab a tissue. Nick jumped wow you don't have to yell just go get a tissue Mia reached out and felt his forehead didn't seem to have a fever. After helping her mom to her room with her luggage she noticed Nick was back to playing his game. Nick, why dont you arrange your room and unpack maybe take a nap im going for a walk With a huff nick repliedOkay, mom.

Walking the path of pebbles and crunchy leaves Mia loved the view everything vivid the cloudless sky and the sun breaking through the trees the leaves were bright popped out against the blue sky she smiled it was beautiful and peaceful when she rounded the turn that would lead to the main road she grabbed her cell to dial Jackson. Jackson picked up on the forth ring. Hey babe Jackson seemed happy. Hey, Cant wait to see you this weekend. Me too its only three days. i know, So hows work?

"ill be pretty busy with meetings and whatnot, but i plan on leaving early Friday and if i can get back sooner i will.Okay, ill let you get back to work then the sooner the better, love you, J. Love you, M. Ill check in tonight when i get to the hotel.

As soon as the call ended the wind picked up blowing the leaves in all directions Mia hugged herself and felt for the first time in a long time she couldn't wait to see her husband and suddenly with a renewed since of purpose set off to enjoy every part of this trip. She walked back to the cabin with a hop to her step and set about unpacking.
