Getting the cabin in order kept Mia busy and after settling in she decided to grill burgers and dogs quick and easy sitting outside by the fire making smores was Nicks favorite activity before the sun went down and the temperature turned to cool to be comfortable they moved inside and got the board games out. The brown table in the dining room had been there when they bought the place and although Mias plans consisted of changing and updating everything in the cabin she insisted on keeping the big brown table which Jackson felt was an eye sore but underneath the table were names and dates of previous tenants the cabin was rented prior to them purchasing it and they added there own of course and also anyone who ever stayed or visited it was something that made her feel warm inside and she hoped that when nick grew and had a family of his own they would keep the tradition going.
Around nine Mia found herself yawning and as her mother and Nick went to get ready for bed she got all the dishes in the dishwasher poured herself a glass of wine and as she took a sip her phone began to vibrate she had left it on the dinning room table. She didn't check the display as she was waiting for Jackson's call.
Hello.
Hey babe
J, are you just getting in?
Yea i got held up, is he already in bed?
Yes, it was a long day he was exhausted.
There was a pause Jackson didn't answer right away.
Mia heard a voice in the background faint but definitely a woman's voice.
Mia began shaking, her fury was blinding she had to take a few deep breaths to regain control and when she found her voice she asked
Jackson why would you call with some bitch in your hotel room, do you not respect me at all?
Mia, your over reacting it was just room service I'm not cheating, I swear
I'm alone.
Mia ended the call, throwing her phone down on the dinning room table she looked at her phone to make sure she hadn't accidentally broken it. She had came across vague text messages, sketchy emails nothing concrete but the implications were hard to ignore and Jackson denied, denied, denied and he was convincing but the voice she heard on the line tonight was etched in her brain she knew that voice his secretary Amy. There was no way to deny the truth she had confirmation after all this time the anger was slowly seeping away but the hurt was all encompassing the flood of tears began and she found herself in that moment trying to cry quietly as to not wake Nick or worse her mother who would undeniably say its okay you guys can work it out and I can help. Mia made it a point to leave her marital problems between herself and Jackson because her mother thought she was a therapist thanks to all the Dr. Phil repeats she watched and Mia couldn't handle her opinions right now. She shook herself and thought get it together and stop crying after composing herself she felt empty. Mia topped her glass off turning all the lights off checking the security system and made her way up the stairs once in her room she couldn't stop the tears that returned with a vengeance.
