After crying and a third glass of wine Mia slept in she never was one to sleep late. As she walked into the bathroom to shower the glass shower stall with silver lining glinted and she turned the nobs to a hot temp, she looked at herself in the mirror. The mirror was huge it ran the entire wall it was revealing and she felt the mirror showed her exactly as she was a women who was sad and more than anything tired. She was tired of fighting even knowing the result would mean the end of her marriage, even though she knew Jackson was lying and cheating she wasn't able to end it always the one fully invested in their relationship.
She stayed for all the typical reasons but after looking at herself in the mirror she realized she could not go on anymore and decided at that moment that she was divorcing her husband letting that decision sit there in her mind when she became aware the mirror was filled with steam. Mia took a lengthy shower. She took her time getting dressed and she leisurely walked down the stairs, she felt light as if all the weight of the world had lifted, but she did find it odd that Nick hadn't knocked or come to ask her for something. When she entered the kitchen her mother and Nick were watching TV on the breakfast bar they didn't even look up she shook her head and said whats so interesting?
Oh, hi mom Nick said, not in his normal cheerful tone.
Her mother looked at her and in that moment Mia knew something was wrong.
Whats wrong mom?
Her mother just motioned to look at the TV.
Mia moved towards the counter till she was right in front of the television breaking news flashed on the screen a red headed reporter with large eyes

If any one is exhibiting signs please call (800) 000-0099 again the number is ... the screen went blank and a loud beep sounded The National Broadcast System began blinking on the screen. The three of them stood staring at the television the broadcast got as far as this is not a test then the screen went blank...
The three of them stood there watching the screen it hadn't changed and eventually Mia turned the television off they also hadn't said a word to each other. Mia grabbed her cell to call Jackson he had tried calling last night and she had ignored his call, three missed calls showed on her display. The phone beeped loudly then a message stating all circuits were busy and to try again she repeated in her head this cant be happening, please let this not be true. Her mother was standing with Nick they were looking at her. She took a deep breath and said Okay its not going to do us any good to panic, we should prepare to stay here a little longer until things blow over.
What about Dad? Nick coughed.
I haven't talked to your Dad since last night he could already be on his way here, they just issued that, I'm sure they are giving people a chance to head home she smiled weakly. Trying not to appear shaken by the news Mia set about making things as normal as possible for Nick. By the late afternoon the hours seemed to drag and no one was addressing the elephant in the room.
Mia's cell rang she scrambled to answer it. Jackson spoke loud, Mia?
oh thank god
Yes, Jackson
Good, i wanted to check make sure you guys were okay
We are fine, what about you?
I'm good, I was already heading out of the city when the news broke we just made it out they are closing everything and the traffic is insane.
Before Mia could respond Nick was there grabbing the phone
Dad Are you okay? We saw the news.
Nick smiled Mia couldn't hear what Jackson was saying but she was sure he was doing his best to comfort Nick. Okay, Dad I love you. Nick looked at his mother with a relieved look and said Dad had to go but he says he is coming here.
OK, honey Mia smiled taking the phone.
After the phone call Nick was more relaxed and the day went by smoothly.
Dinner was served at exactly 6pm. Mia hadn't heard from Jackson again she wasn't alarmed its about a five hour ride from the city to the cabin and Jackson had mentioned the traffic she wanted to keep up the normal theme so the three of them enjoyed the chicken and rice she prepared. After dinner they sat and watched a few movies there still wasnt a signal to watch TV the whole cabin smelled like popcorn her mother said she was tired and after the first movie she went up to bed.
Nick was falling asleep definitely unusual for him he had this thing he always wanted to make sure he made it to the end of a movie. Mia woke him just enough to get him to his room tucking Nick in and giving him a kiss on the forehead.
Leaving his door slightly ajar Mia headed down stairs sitting on the couch she grabbed her cell still nothing from Jackson and she was starting to worry she had attempted to call but on her end there was either no signal or the circuits were busy. She had a terrible feeling and as she sat there with the blue screen from the DVD player menu illuminating the living room eventually exhaustion won she began to close her eyes.
