Before The Outbreak

Raelynn's POV
Just another day at school. I'm with my friend's Briana and Danielle. These two girls have stuck by my side even at my worst of times. I dunno what I'd do without them.

"So, what are you guys gonna do this weekend?" Asked Danielle.

"My parents and I are gonna go on a little road trip Saturday, but other than that, nothing. What about you Raelynn? "Briana asked me.

"Huntin." Was all I said.

"Don't you do that every weekend? " they both asked.

"Yea, but there's no problem in that. I mean, who knows what happens in the future. Might need it." I say to the two girls.

"That is true." Briana says.

"Also Raelynn, your birthday is coming up. What do you want?" Danielle asks.

"Um... I don't know. But you don't need to get me anything though." I say.

"Yes we do!" They both yell.

"Gosh, no need for the yelling but seriously though, no need on getting me anything." I tell them.

"Raelynn Ashley Dixon, if you don't tell us what to get, we ain't gonna be your friends anymore." They say.

"Fine with me." I say as I smirk a little, "I guess I'll just go then." And I get up to walk away.

All of a sudden, I get pulled back.

"Raelynn! No!" They say.

"What?" I ask with a confused tone in my voice.

"We were just joking on not being your friend!" They say.

"I know. But if you want to get me something, go ahead. I don't care." I tell them, and as soon as I did, the bell rang.

We all walked to our class and sat down. Once I did, I pretty much fell asleep because I don't like the way this teacher sounds.

After school, all three of us walk out to the front.

"Hey, I see my parents, but I'll see you guys Monday?" Danielle asks.

We both nod and she leaves. Briana and I walk over to her mom's car, and I talk to her for a couple minutes until I see my dad pull up.

"I'll see you Monday then, Briana?" I ask in which she nods.

Her mom pulls out as I'm heading to my dad's truck. I then get in and he then starts to leave.

"How was school?" He asked me.

"Okay." Is all I say.

After that, it was quiet until we got home. Once we pull up in the driveway, we get out and walk up to the door and walk in. When I did, the first thing I see is Uncle Merle lying on the couch passed out. He was also holding a beer bottle in his hand. So yup, he's out cold from drinking to much. I wouldn't doubt the fact that he might have been doing drugs too. But he hasn't been doing this for so long.

"Merle! Get ya lazy ass up!" Daddy yells at Merle, causing him to fall off the couch.

"Wha' baby brotha? Why ya have ta yell?" Merle says, stupidly.

"Cuz ya drunk. Passed out on ta damn couch again. Second time this week. Ya been doing well till this week wha' happened ta ya?" Daddy yells at Merle.

I didn't want to hear anymore so I went up to my room and closed my door. This is what happens when I'm the daughter & niece of rednecks.

I then decided to to on my computer to do some research on this project that we are starting on Monday. We all got assigned to do something since it's a group project. I'm the writer and researcher since we only have 3 people in my group which involves me, Danielle and Briana. I start working and after about two hours, I stop. I turn everything off and then go to my TV. I turned it on and put the news on. Yes, I watch the news, it's educational and I like to know what happens around the world. While I was watching, this lady started going off about this virus answer people bitting other people and the dead are rising and what not.

"Everyone needs to stay inside and keep everything shut and locked. There is the dead walking and..." she didn't finish cuz this dead person bit into her. I freaked and ran to the living room.

"Dad, are you watching the news?" I asked.

"Jus' seen it. Go pack ya self a bag or two. Gonna leave within an hour." He said and I nodded.

With that I ran back to my room and started packing. I put in shirts, pants, a few shorts, undergarments, hair stuff, a few books, my sketch book and a picture of my dad, uncle and me when I was younger. Once I was done, I headed out and waited for my dad and uncle.
