Indira Valiathan was born in Kerala, an Indian state in South India on the Malabar coast. Its primary export is spices...and people. Most of the state's income comes from remittances sent back to family by members that have gone to work in other countries. Indira is one of those people who left, but not to send money back home. Her entire family was killed by a demon who came to collect on the deal her father made on his soul.
Miraculously, Indira escaped death and was taken in by a family who schooled her in the art of Kalaripayattu. She achieved the highest status and became a teacher, all the while hunting the demon who killed her family. She followed a lead that took her to the United States, where she met Kate and Clea while selling sari's on the renaissance festival circuit.
