Author's Notes:

I have completely forgotten that I did not upload my entry for AMACON3's 21st prompt about Maine, Alden, and a letter for their future selves.

I am now rectifying that oversight. 😊

I am still a little sad that life got in the way and I was not able to submit the ten required stories for me to qualify but as I said on twitter, I am happy for everyone who became a part of it. YAHOY!!!!

Anywho, this entry once again goes around that prompt. Most of you who at least know how I write by now must understand how I always take a different approach to things. 😉 If you have not read this yet, I hope you enjoy it!

--------------------------------------

Now... each time that Maine visited Richard, she feels a weariness to the bone that started to become a weariness she feels through the vestiges of her soul.

It has been three years since the unfortunate accident that wiped out his memory.

It has been three years since she was able to look at him and find his face break out in a smile in recognition of her.

As she closed the door to his room today, she wondered whether she should heed what friends and family have told her for months now.

Could it be time to move on?

----

I love you.

You have to remember that first and foremost. If that fails to make you happy then remember that you love me.

Maine smiled as she read that passage again from one of Richard's letters but berated herself later on for causing herself this torture.

She missed his sense of humor and hearing him laugh. Her longing for him taking spaces not only inside her mind but inside her house too.

He was everywhere and yet nowhere.

She saw him on her sofa, on her kitchen, on her bed... but every time she reached out a hand to touch him, he would disappear.

----

"Are you sure Dr. Mendoza about this decision?" the hospital director asked her.

She wanted to say "No" but she had decided last night after bawling her eyes out that she needed to do this. There was no other way for her.

"I am sure Sir."

"I will check on who else can be assigned to take on his case. Approximately 15 days will pass before this takes effect. Make sure you have prepared everything for the turn-over."

She nodded and thanked him before leaving his office.

Maine was moving on from Richard. It felt like she was leaving for another planet.

He, on the other hand, would only remember her as his doctor - the Neurologist. Nothing more. Nothing less.

----

Whenever you miss me, all you need to do is just look at yourself. I left traces of me in there.

And he did.
