Zera

I'm in a room, a grey room with bricked walls with paint chipping off. The cot I was laying was cold and hard, nothing but a thin linen sheet and a metal toilet bowl in the far corner of the room. The room is drafty and the door looks heavy  with a small window, almost like a prison cell,

Where am I?

How'd I get here?

Where's Andrew?

My head is throbbing and I look around at the dull cell. As I try to sit up I feel something heavy and cold holding my leg down....more specifically.....a chain

Wait...w-what the hell

I struggle to get free from the heavy chain and I start to panic.

Mom! Andrew! Please someone!

Something about this scene....this feeling...it seems eerily familiar but this can't be real, this has to be a dream, right? I'll close my eyes and I'll wake up at home, I have too! With that thought I lay my head back down on the cot and squeeze my eyes shut hoping to wake up to mom's high pitched voice.

Andrew

She's having night terrors again, even through the thick walls, all I hear is her groaning and whimpering in fear. I get out of my bed as the groaning gets louder and head down the narrow hall to her room, without a sound so I don't wake up my mom and peeked into her room. Zera was there on her bed, tossing and turning, the shine of sweat on her forehead. I step in quietly and tip toe over to the bed, sitting slowly and grabing her hand gently,

"Hey, Zera" I whisper, gently shaking her and she pops up, like that feeling you get, when you feel like your falling and suddenly wake up. She looks around confused and then her gaze lands on me, and she sighs in relief resting her head in her hands,

"Another nightmare huh....how bad was it" I ask quietly

"This one....I-it felt so real....I was in a room, erm...a cell chained to a cot...." she says shakily, I can feel my jaw clench when she said a cell

"O-oh, really? U-um have they gotten better?" I ask, shrugs

"No, not really....." she sighs as she looks at the alarm clock on the nightstand beside her bed, 3:45 am it reads and she reaches for her phone on the nightstand,

"What are you doing?" I ask,

"I'm texting a friend, sorry to have woken you up...you can rest now I'm okay" she says slowly, unlocking her phone and typing something,

"A friend?" I question "one of those guys you were talking about at dinner?" I say, a bit annoyed

"Yes, as a matter of fact I am, problem? " she asks defensively

"I don't have a good feeling, you don't need guy friends you need to worry about school" I say standing and crossing my arms

"Andrew,  screw off here you go with the dad act" she says with an eye roll, I start to say something but her phone starts to ring, cutting me off

"If you'll excuse me, I'm going on the balcony", with that she gets up and throws on a hooded sweatshirt and stomps out.

Kayden

I put Brice to sleep after Rowen and I had talk about school tomorrow, We'd decided that we would go to school and enroll Brice at the pre-school closer to us, I get a text from Zera,

[Hey, are you awake I need a friend right now]

I read the words on the bright screen and blush a bit that she'd want to talk to me.....this late especially.

[Yea what's up?]

I type it a bit worried

[I'll call you]

I smile and step downstairs waiting for her call.

Ring....Ring...Ring

"Hello? Hey Zera what's up?"

"Hey....I....I'm okay, can I tell you something" she asks, a bit nervously

"Yea, anything" I say

"I had this.....dream right and...I don't know it felt so...real. I was in a room that was more like a cell, and i was chained up, I don't know what to think of it...." she says shakily

"Whoa, okay listen, it's just a dream it wasn't real okay? Where are you right now?" I ask

"Home, on my balcony" she says

"Doesn't sound like a cell to me,what are you doing" I ask

"Standing up,talking to you" she says with a slight chuckle

"No chains?" I ask

"Nope, no chains" she replies

"Good, now how do you feel?" I ask

"I feel better, thank you Kayden, I appreciate you answering especially when it's this late" she says, and I can tell she's smiling, which makes me smile,

"Hey, if course we are friends after all, now get some sleep we have school in a few hours"

"Your right Goodnight, Kayden"

"Goodnight, Zera"

Next Day

The next morning I lay groggily on the soft plush King sized mattress, fully aware but not wanting to open my eyes. After fighting the fact that I do have school, right on que, Brice comes running in fully dressed and jumping on the bed,

"Wakey Wakey, eggs and Bakey!" He yells, with a grown in reluctantly sit up,

"I'm up I'm up, goodmorning Brice" I say with a rough voice, he smiles and sits up running back out of the room and the smell of delicious and perfectly cooked eggs and bacon forces it's way into my nostrils. I get up and see clothes, about my size, at the foot of the bed.

Time for school. ......
