Then, the tour ends and the boys come back to the UK in early July.

Payzer : an overwhelming amount of outings in many forms from July to September
Zerrie : Perrie celebrates very publicly the Eid with Zayn's famliy (short of his father) and first cheating scandal in August for LM's 1st single's release.
On the 25th, Liam has a very publicized birthday party, that Danielle, Harry and Niall attend. Zouis won't.
On the 29th, his actual birthday, he has a private party with his family and he's pictured with Danielle leaving his house. Zayn tweets « happy birthday » to Michael Jackson, but very pointedly does not tweet « happy birthday » to Liam.
On the 30th, the boys do a twitcam in which Zayn and Louis call Liam out on not answering his phone the previous day. Liam argues he has very good reasons not to but Zayn disagrees. At the end, they undress him though (Liam screaming to their bodyguard « it's not what it looks like » and Zayn teasing « it's exactly what it looks like »), so they seem good with each other.
They definitely seem good with each other.
So, I think Zayn and Liam were definitely more than fooling at this point, and Zayn got mad because he didn't have to spend Liam's birthday with him, because Liam had to pretend either for Danielle or for the publicity (seeing the pics, I'd say that either Liam stopped pretending/fooling around with her but didn't tell her about him and Zayn/didn't refuse to stunt with her, which explains Zayn/Zouis' anger/boycott for his birthday). Knowing that Payzer was one month away from the break-up, I'd say Liam reassured Zayn by saying it was almost over. Since they broke up exactly a year after making it official, I think it's safe to say they were in a 1-year contract.
