Lying in the bed beside her brother, who was most likely in a deep sleep, Christella inhaled sharply as she felt the familiar burning pain starting in her fingers and toes, then making its way through her body. She was in a predicament, there was no way she was going to be able to get out of bed without waking Heath up.
Her head throbbing from holding her breath, Christella attempted to get out of the bed by climbing over Heath. 'It worked,' she thought.
Moving to the bathroom, Christella sat on the cool tiled floors, waiting for the pain to subside. She closed her eyes and took another deep breath. All she wanted to do was cool her hands, her feet — they felt like they were on fire. She only opened her eyes when she heard the bathroom door click open. It was Heath. Christella groaned internally — she wasn't meant to wake him up.
He looked tired, his hair all over the place but still, he sat beside Christella. "You should've woken me up." Heath said in a whisper. There was no response from Christella. She was sitting there, no longer in pain. Heath was glad his sister was no longer in pain, but felt guilty for making her deal with it alone.
"Come on, let's get back to bed." Heath helped Christella up and the pair walked back to their bedroom where they fell asleep in an instant.
"Heath! Christella! I'm not asking you two to get up one more time!" Primrose yelled at the sibling's door one morning.
"We're up!" Heath yelled back, annoyed.
"Well if you're up, get out here! We're having a talk to you two."
Christella lugged herself up first, followed by Heath. They made their way to the kitchen where their Aunt, Uncle and Cousin were all sitting at the table.
"It's been decided that you will not be attending Evergreen College anymore, but will be going to a boarding school in Lancaster. Apparently your good-for-nothing parents went there too, got a scholarship or something of the sort." Vincent said the last part in an angry grumble.
However, Christella and Heath looked overjoyed at the news, excited that they were going some place without their horrible family.
"When do we start?" Heath asked.
"September the third. When everyone goes back to school for their next year." Vincent replied.
It was currently the beginning of June, meaning the children only had a few weeks left of this school year, and for Heath and Christella, only a few weeks until they leave Evergreen College.
