Chapter 01 | Heartless B*tch of Hamilton

"I'm retreating in covers and closing the curtains. One thing's for certain, a year like this passes so strangely somewhere between sorrow and bliss."
— Florence and the Machine, Too Much is Never Enough

--------------------------------------

I emerged from the supply closet, quietly shutting the door behind me, while leaving my latest conquest of the week half dressed inside. Smoothing out my curly, dark brown hair and straightening up my clothing, I smiled at a passing teacher who was patrolling the hallways. She smiled back, not even bothering to question why I was not currently in class—economics at the time.

Let me tell you a little secret about teachers, as long as you did not act like a sassy piece of shit to them, they generally turn a blind eye to whatever it was you were doing.

Walking in the halls with no pass? Why, who even cares? Carry on.

Of course, there were always the few exceptions; the teachers who got off on making the lives of students a living hell, but most of the teachers at Hamilton High were not like that.

They knew who I was, and they could probably guess what I was doing, or why I wasn't currently in class, considering all the gossip that surrounded me, but I wasn't a complete troublemaker. I did my work, I had straight A's, I answered the question during those awkward pauses in class, and unless I was 'dating' someone, I avoided most people like they had some gross infectious disease.

Teacher's liked me, and it definitely had it's benefits for when I was having a shitty day like today, hence the class skipping.

Before I could make myself disappear like a ghost, the door to the supply closet opened up again before closing with a small bang. I tensed, but continued walking, hoping to make my escape without too much trouble.

"Hey." An arm wrapped around my shoulders pulling me close to a warm body.

I resisted the urge to roll my eyes, "What?" I asked in what was most likely an annoyed voice, though I did try to keep it civil.

The guy grinned down at me, but I could see a cold and aloofness in his eyes. He leaned into me and I forced myself not to flinch away from him, "Why did you stop? Don't you want to go finish what you started?"

He licked his bottom lip in what was probably his attempt to be sexy. Honestly, I couldn't even remember his name. Some kid a year above me, a senior who just wanted a warm body to stick his junk into. He was using me, but the truth was, a truth that seemed so foreign to everyone else, I was okay with that.

This was usually the time I would brush the guy aside with a promise of more later, but I was exhausted and not to mention pissed off, the events of the morning still replaying over and over in my brain.

Plus, even with all of his bravado the guy wasn't even that good of a kisser. He wasn't the distraction I needed today, he was barely a distraction at all.

And I practically told him as much.

"Listen, it was fun and all, but I've got other shit to do." I pushed his arm from around my shoulders. "And for future reference, when you're kissing a girl, do not try to shove your tongue down her throat. It is not pleasant."

His eyes flared with anger, "You fucking bitch."

He moved toward me, fists clenched at his sides. Just as I was preparing to set my bag down to teach the bastard a lesson with my fists, and maybe a hard kick to his not-that-impressive private area, my not-so-knight in shining armor arrived.
