04. What did I Do?

Caroline was working, and by working that meant stealing. She was Klepto, the Crowned Queen of Crime, after all. In this case she was stealing one of the largest rubies smuggled into Starling by one of the many corrupt billionaires in the city. For how rich the man was his security system was awful. She had gotten in with little help from her tech savy bestfriend, Rose. The laser grid was easy to maneuver but she needed Rose to disable the silent alarms and gain the security code for the case holding the ruby. She had planned on selling the ruby to a 3rd party and for a lot of money. She was almost out the door when it all went wrong. A guard who was running behind on his schedule was taking a shortcut through the main foyer when he saw her. The guard didn't know what to do, he reached for his gun. He recognized her, everyone knew what she looked like. The Crowned Queen of Crime was known throughout the Starling Elite. Caroline had not planned on being caught nor was she prepared to be. People say that in moments of panic your animalistic instincts take over, they call it fight or flight, in this moment of panic Klepto knew flight wasn't an option. Taking one of her knives from inside her jacket, she approached. When she was close enough she threw the knife aiming to graze his side, incapacitating but not killing him. At the last moment the guard tried to move out of the way but instead put his heart in the daggers line of sight. Caroline hadn't even realized what happened till the guard's body dropped to the floor unmoving. She felt her stomach drop as she felt for a pulse that wasn't there. She called 911 and stayed until she heard sirens. She knew the guard was dead and no matter what the paramedics did would change that so she ran.

Rose knew something was wrong with Caroline the minute she walked in. Rose assumed the job went wrong and Care hadn't gotten the ruby but when she placed the jewel on the table Rose was even more confused. When she had asked, Care had started to cry and locked herself in her room. Rose could hear Care crying for hours but she couldn't see Care texting a certain awkward Central City forensic scientist.
