Should I or should I not? Should I tell Jake that accidentally, Ted Lockwood has turned out to be my client for the meeting? Or should I just zip up and not pay attention to it? Should I.... should I not? Damn.
"Jake, can you meet me in a hour? Starbucks?" I requested the infuriated person at the end of the line.
"I'm a lawyer, I have case studies, I just can't go about parading Prada with friends." He said sarcastically. Ouch. It did hurt me.
"Jakey, please, let me explain, its important that I meet you.'' I begged him.
"Ok, fine, in an hour." He said and hung up on me.
I decided to continue with the Prada outfit and dab on some make-up and re do my hair for Jake. May be that would make him a little less angry.
"Kylie Evans, get your ass down here." Elizabeth's voice came out of no where from my intercom.
"You do look decent." She said as I walked through her door.
"What did you exactly say in the meeting?" she asked seriously.
"Ummm, just about future marketing stratergies. That's all." I replied back in tension.
"Well, Kylie, you surely have done something..." Elizabeth said with a spark in her eyes.
"What did I do??" I asked her, with my head filled with my confused thoughts.
"Magic. They loved your presentation and stratergy and have decided to sign a one year contract with us." Elizabeth said with a smiling face. That smiling face was a rare sight, maybe once in 15 days, she would stretch her facial muscles for something else apart from giving orders.
"Oh that's great." I smiled back. "Anything else?" I asked.
"No, that's all for now, you may leave." She said.
My presentation was crap. It was utter bull shit. I had made that up in 2 hours. Anyone could have made those stratergies. They were dumb. Literally, dumb. I was ashamed of myself. I didn't know how Elizabeth approved it.
Ted Lockwood. I'm sure that ass was behind this approval. He paid millions for this dumb idea. I couldn't believe how lunatic a marketing head would be. He was Ted, I couldn't expect more from him.
I got my things in place and left for Starbucks. I felt so bad, I had abandoned Lanie all day long. I felt so good today, I meant the way I looked. Everyone noticed me, right from Elizabeth to the elevator guy. I reached Starbucks and saw Jake waiting for me.
"What is it?" He said before I could seat myself. Jake didn't notice me. He didn't notice the new clothes, nor my make up, nor my hair. His face was as expressionless as ever.
"Jake, sweetie, I wasn't splurging my paycheck on Prada. Elizabeth, my boss ordered me to go shopping with her as I had to dress up well for the meeting. It was all put on the company's tab." I explained.
"Anything else?'' He said dryly.
"What the fuck is wrong with you? Why have you been acting like a jerk so lately? First last night and now this. Stop making up things in your head Jake, they're just causing irrelevant fights between us." I said sounding pissed off.
"Not fights, arguements, and they are relevant. What do you expect then? We hardly spend time together, I though yesterday I would cook you dinner, but no, I see you with some dork from your office, laughing over beer. Since how many months have we done that? Today I thought of having lunch with you, but no, you had to shop for your meeting. What the hell was wrong with what you were wearing?!"
"Don't ask me, ask Elizabeth! And they were mere co-incidences. I would never in my life do anything to hurt you intentinally. After everything we've been through. No. Never. I miss you Jakey. All I get to see you during the day is for 4 hours, out of which either we are working at home or sitting in front of the TV, you with your match and me with my Castle. That's all." I said with tears in my eyes.
He held my hand. "I don't know what's happened to us K, I really don't know." he said sounding equally disheartened.
Jakey & K. That's what we were for each other. Right from high school. He might have called me K a billion times till now, but each time he said it, it got that same smile on my face. That smile when he called me K for the first time.
"Jake, there's something else I need to tell you." I said remembering I had to inform him about Ted.
"Go ahead Kyl's..." He said.
"Well, I had th lunch meeting as I told you, and I bashed in to someone. Rather he was my client." I said
"Who?" Jake asked casually.
"Ted. Ted Lockwood." I murmered.
Time froze, at least that's what it seemed. 30 seconds of silence.
"That bastard." Jake finally spoke up.
"It was nothing, just a proffesional thing." I said skipping the i-loved-you part. "And he dropped me back to my office."
"Did he say anything?" Jake asked. "Nope, nothing. I cut him off when he was about to bring up the past." I replied.
"Good girl." Jake smiled at me. Gosh, I missed that smile of his.
"Anyways, I gotta go, work calling." I said leaving the table
"Oh K... listen...." Jake said stopping me from behind, catching my arm.
"What?" I asked in a hurry.
"You look gorgeous." Jake said and kissed my forhead.
Awww. That guy was back. My Jakey was back.
