Antonia

My twin sister had a friend over today and they were being extremely loud. So to tune them out I walked over to my stereo, put my new Simple Plan CD in it and turned up the volume.

I lay down on my floor and pulled my laptop that was under my bed, towards me. Sloane had apparently messaged me, asking me how it went and if I'd died of shame.

17:56
An: It was horrible!! I wanted to die so bad ugh that was so embarrassing

18:09
Sloane: Still probably not as bad as the time I ran around outside in my underwear screaming for Jack to do me haha

18:15
An: I still can't believe you accepted that dare

18:17
Sloane: What can I say? I'm crazy

18:17
An: True af

"Hey sis." I rolled onto my side and saw my brother, Nathan standing in behind me. "Hi." I said, slamming my laptop shut as out of the corner of my eye I saw that Sloane had sent me a rather rude All Time Low gif.

Nathan rolled his eyes, extended a hand towards me and said: "Whatever. Mum says dinner's ready."

"Already?"

"Yeah, you've been up here for about two hours now." I couldn't believe how fast the time had gone. Well, I did play the Simple Plan CD about three times, so I guess it made sense.

I took Nathan's hand and let him pull me up. Before I followed him downstairs, I quickly turned off my stereo.

I heard hem before I entered the dining room; my sister and Kimberley

God. Out of all of my sister's friends, I hated her the most.

As I sat down I felt her eyes burn holes in me. "Interesting hair." she said with a sneer. And clearly she hated me too. I looked at Ella, but her eyes just shifted to the tabletop as if her empty plate was the most interesting thing she'd ever seen.

"Antonia!" my mother called in an annoyed tone, "Will you finally come help me?" I let out a sigh and got up, letting Nathan lightly hit my shoulder for encouragement.

Why did I have to help? Ella could have done it, she'd been down here longer.

The smell of food hit me the second I walked through the doorway and my mouth started to water.

"Carry that pan in, will you?" I walked over to the counter and took hold of the pan my mother was pointing towards. A burning sensation spread like wildfire across my palms and I let go of the handles, "Fuck! That's hot!" I exclaimed.

"Hey! Watch your mouth!" my mum said, spinning round and pointing a spoon at me, "You should have warm oven mitts."

"You could've told me." I muttered.

"What was that?" The spoon had come scarily close to my face and I could feel the steam from the tomato sauce that was on it heat up my face. "Nothing." I quickly said as I put on the oven mitts and carried the still pretty warm into the dining room as quickly as I could.

Kimberley sat across from me, sniggering.

"You okay?" Nathan leaned over to softly ask me.

"Yeah fine."

Dinner then mainly consisted of my father praising my sister and her friend for the recent academic accomplishments. Their last science project had been a complete success and of course they had done it together. Then Kimberley being Kimberley wouldn't stop gloating. It made me want to throw up.

Weekends were the best; not just because I wasn't forced to go to school, but because Nathan came home. Granted, he wouldn't do that so much anymore. So for the time being, I was going to spend as much time with my older brother as I possibly could.

We spent this weekend by building a fort in the living room, like we did when we smaller. A lot smaller. And watched films from our childhood, like The Lion King, Shrek and The Incredibles.

My parents would never have allowed me to this if it hadn't been for Nathan; he had spoken to them and I didn't know what he'd said, but they didn't bother us.

It may sound lame, but in that instant I felt free in a way. Like they weren't judging me. Well, they might have been, behind my back, but at least I didn't have to hear any of their comments for once.

"Are you coming home next weekend?" I asked my brother in between films. "Honestly An,I'm not sure yet. There's this huge project I'm supposed to be a part of, but no one has bothered to tell me when I'm needed. So maybe or maybe not. I don't know."

"I hope you will." I said.

Nathan turned to look at me and he kept looking into my eyes as if searching for something.

Suddenly I saw a flash of pity in his expression, pity for me. He pitied me because I was alone. But it disappeared not even a second after it had appeared.

"Wanna watch Ice Age?" he asked, a clear strain in his voice.

"Yeah!" I piped up.

Author's Note:

This chapter is slightly shorter, but I thought I'd upload it anyway because it's been two months or something. Sorry about that.

I have two reasons: I know how the story will go, but not how to get it started and also: I hardly have any time to sit down and actually write.

If you're still reading this story; thank you so much. Honestly, that means the world to me!

Please vote or comment and the pressure will probably make me want to make more time to write ;)

XOXO Nina
