When my fingers pulled open the door, I gasped at the sight in front of me.

There were two people making out.
Jonathan, and Zoe, his girlfriend.
"Oh my god!" I jumped and quickly covered my eyes.
"Hayley? The hell are you doing here?" I heard Jonathan panicked.
"Oh lord." I heard Zoe shuffling.
I stood there, awkwardly waiting for them to speak.
"Sorry for that. Why are you here?" Jonathan asked, fixing his hair.
Zoe just stood there looking to the ground
"I'm so terribly sorry for breaking in like that. I just- I got a text from an unknown number, It was telling me to go here. I- I thought maybe there was something bad going on here. It was stupid. I-I'm so sorry. I'll just-" I trembled and turned myself around.

"Hayley, what's going on?"
He suddenly called after me.
I stood there, not moving.
"I'll see you after school, Jake's parking lot." He said softly.

I hadn't heard anything from Zoe. She just kept on being quiet. I nodded my head then quickly ran outside.

I didn't go back to class after that. Because school was almost over anyways. I just sat there in front of my locker.

Jonathan Goldenrod, I used to call him Nate. He was one of my brother Jake's closest friends. I used to have a massive crush on him. But it eventually stopped, because I knew I had zero chances and he was already in love with Zoe. I was in despair.

He used to come to our house and play video games with Jake and I.
But since Jake was gone, we hadn't really talk to each other in a while. Probably because he was too busy with Zoe. Why did he want to talk to me? Why now? I had gotten over him and I promised myself to stay as far away from him.
But I couldn't.

Zoe Pennington.
Zoe had been Nate's crush since, forever.
And they finally got together a month before Jake was gone. That was when I realized I had zero chances with the first boy I had ever fallen in love with. I wished Zoe was a mean girl. It could've been easier for me to hate her. But she wasn't though. She was kind, smart, a little shy and also really pretty too. She was perfect for Nate. And I didn't want to ruin that.
So eventually I drifted away from Nate, for good.

The school bell rang. I waited a few minutes, then I went inside my Mr.Brown's class again to take my bag.

I finally reached the parking lot. Jake's parking lot. We used to gather there then drove to our house by my brother's car. It was the farthest parking lot from school.

When I got there, Nate was already waiting.
"Hi. Sorry for making you wait." I felt so awkward.
"Nah, it's okay." He gestured me to sit next to him, so I did.
"What do you want to say?" I asked slowly.
"No, what do you want to say?" I was silent. When I didn't reply, he continued.
"Hmm, let's start from.. Why didn't you answer my texts?" He asked as if it was the obvious question.
"Um, I- I don't know.." My eyes roamed everywhere but him.
"Okay.. Were you avoiding me?" He asked again.
"Um, no.." I lied.
"Hayles, you know you can talk to me about everything, right..?" He whispered. My heart pounded against my chest. It was really hard to prevent the butterflies in my stomach from fluttering around.
"Tell me anything you want Hayles. You can trust me.." I didn't know what to say or how to react to that. Because I knew that was true, but at the same time I didn't want to let myself fall for him again. "I know, Nate." I smiled.

"You're like a sister to me.." He smiled back. My heart dropped to my stomach. My hopes sank in.
A sister, I see.
I was sister-zoned, of course. I mentally slapped myself for hoping too high.
"Y-yeah.." I faked a smile.

"I know it's a stupid question but.. How are you lately Hayles?" He placed his hand on top of mine. To him, that was a friendly gesture. But to me? That simple gesture was everything I needed.

"I'm fine, I guess.." I said unsurely.
"Are you? I don't believe that." He raised his eyebrow. When I didn't answer, he continued.
"Sometimes It's okay to not be okay Hayles. You don't have to be okay all the time." He laughed softly.
I hadn't heard his laugh for so long that when I did, it made me smile so wide.

"I know." I laughed along. Then the laughter died down. The silence took over.
"So.." he started. "What about we spend some more time together starting from now? You're my friend after all." He grinned. "Will do." I winked.

I realized that maybe we didn't have to be more than friends. Not having any friends was worst than being stuck in the sister-zone anyways.

I wasn't sure what we were, but I was sure that Nate and I were in good condition now. Wherever the wind might take us, I'm ready.

A.N:
Oooh I smell some lovey-dovey stuffs coming up soon! I wasn't planning to add any romance to this book at all.. but idk.
Let's just vote.
Do you guys want some drama or naah?
Either way, more exciting, thrilling and horrific things are coming! Wait for it ;)

Btw the reason why I was hesitant to upload chapter 4 & 5 was because of the word 'make out' on this chapter lol. It took me a week to realize that it actually isn't that inappropriate cuz I didn't put any details whatsoever, it was just one word. And half of you guys probably don't even know what that means LMAO so yeah..

Make sure to always stay tune every Friday. Luv y'all! -P.L
