When I was thirteen years old, I wrote a book similar to this one. The book was about domestic abuse and it surprises me how much my immature mind knew about it at an age when I should have been innocent to that. Unfortunately, domestic abuse occurs and happens worldwide for many different reasons and to many different people. Typically it is thought of men being abusive to women in these situations. This may be due to the stereotypical thought of men being the stronger gender. However, it IS true that women are more typically abused than men as statistics show that 1 in 4 women will be affected and 1 in 6 men in a lifetime. Which leads to 2 female murders a week and 30 men in a year. No matter what the statistics show, it is a fact that people are affected by domestic abuse and this can lead to death if it is not stopped.
I have not experienced this type of abuse myself and count myself extremely lucky for that but others are not that lucky. Victims of abuse are scared to speak out, terrified to tell anyone else and believe that the abuse will stop or that the abuse is because they 'deserve it'. Neither of these reasons is good enough to not tell someone that you are being hurt. Thinking that it will go away when it will not is not going to help you. If you are being abused in anyway, please contact help lines and escape. No one deserves to be hurt, no one asks for it. Do not let someone hurt you like that and please speak up because people WILL listen. I promise you there is someone out there who can help whether it is a family member, a voluntary organisation, the Police, a friend or a charity. Don't be afraid to speak up.
This book is dedicated to women abuse. I have written a book before but with amateur skills and limited knowledge. Now with many documentaries, songs, reports and true stories being told to me, I understand a bit better and hope that this helps others to understand too. This story is completely fictional, the characters in it are fictional but are entirely based on the true facts and events of domestic abuse.
Please be warned that this book will contain potentially triggering and graphic descriptions of abuse. And please. Speak up, don't feel you are alone.
