Lia's POV

"You okay? You look a bit sick." My best friend, Maya Everett said as we walked into our first period.

"I didn't get much sleep last night." I snapped. I was so tired that I didn't even notice my feistiness.

"Right. How did it go? I mean obviously you did great, and I'm sorry I couldn't be there to help, I had a soccer game. We won!" Maya exclaimed.

Maya was a wild one. But, she was my best friend since the fourth grade, and now that we are both seniors, We tried to hangout with eachother almost every day before we each go our separate ways to college.

Maya has been playing soccer ever since she was little. She even made the varsity team as a freshman, which is extremely hard. In other words, Maya was a pro. Tons of colleges wanted her...but her grades say otherwise.
I've tried to tutor her countless times, but there is a reason why your best friend shouldn't be your teacher.

The bell rang and Calculus began.

Calculus. Ew.

______________

Finally, it was the last period of the day. Also my favorite- AP Literature.
Most students in high school would despise this class, but I actually love it. Writing is my side hobby when I'm not cooking.

"Have a seat, class. Today we are starting a major assignment...involving partners." Mr. Hansen said.

I was curious to hear what this project was about, considering Mr. Hansen never assigned partnered work.

"I will put you with a partner. Both of you have to work together and write a poem on your perspectives of Love. Since we are studying Romeo and Juliet, this seemed fit. This is due in two weeks."

WHAT?

Without thinking I suddenly raised my hand.

"Yes, Miss Heartly?"

"Well, Mr. Hansen, what if my partner's perspective isn't the same as mine? How are we supposed to write the poem together?" I asked nervously.

Mr. Hansen giggled. "Miss Heartly, that is the point. You and your partner might not have the same ideas, but love is entirely one thing. Both of your ideas should be reflected in the poem."

huh?

For the first time ever in that class, I had no idea what I was doing.

Mr. Hansen went row by row when assigning partners. Then, he got to me.

"Alia Heartly." He said while looking at his clipboard. "You will be working with Jonah England."

Hmm. Jonah! Well he seems smart...I think? I just hope he isn't too difficult for me. I can't take anymore stress.

Jonah stood up from his seat and sat in an empty desk that was closer to me.

"Hi, I'm Jonah." He stretched his hand out.

For some reason, I was rubbing my palms. Maybe it was the fact that I was actually talking to a boy, or the fact that I had no idea what I was doing.

I shook his hand. "Hi i'm Alia, but call me Lia." I managed to break out a soft smile.

He actually wasn't bad-looking. At all.
He was wearing a plain white tshirt, with khakis, and brown dress shoes. He had swift dark hair, perfect grey eyes and surprisingly good eyebrows.

"So, what's love?" He said.

That's a good question.
