Walking with the Dead

Kaitlyn Pov

Its been a while and we got stuck in the middle of nowhere with a broken RV.

"This is a graveyard." Lori sighed about being in this place full of car crashes and dead people. Everybody was searching the cars and Kaylee and I decided to check out the cars inside. I opened up one and saw a walker but closed it and ran back to our group with Kaylee.

"Under the cars girls!" Rick told us as we turned ands saw a herd of walkers. We went down and saw the feet of the dead ones passing by. I turned to see Sophia crying and I pointed so Carl would see. He nodded to me and shushed her down. I was terrified and shaking but Kaylee was keeping me calm.

"One went in the RV, Andrea is in there." I whispered to Kaylee and she looked over to me.

"She will be okay." Kaylee told me and I just made a face. Once the footsteps stopped Sophia poked her head out. It wasn't over. The two walkers went after her and she ran into the woods screaming. I got out and started following behind Rick, as he was following her. Daryl grabbed my hand and didn't let me go but I was crying.

"Two walkers are after my baby!" Carol cried. Rick came back but he came without Sophia so the other guys left along with them.

Its been a day and most of the group is going look for her. We were at a church right now and all the walkers came to us, While Rick and Daryl killed them, easily. The bell went off and we ran to it but it was just electrical.

"Rick, maybe she went the oppisite way." I suggested.

"Yea, maybe."  He says and Kaylee walks over to me.
"If she dies, I dont know what to do." She says and Rick announces that we are splitting up. Carl, Kaylee, and I go with them.

"So, When we find Sophia, I was thinking maybe we can go find like  community or something. Be safe." I whispered as Kaylee pointed to Carl walking to a deer. It was beautiful. I smiled until a shot went off.

"No, no, no, no, no. No!" Rick yelled. I ran to Rick and held my jacket to Carl's chest, trying to keep him from bleeding out while Kaylee just stood there, frozen.

"Kaylee!" I yelled and she jumped but then looked down. She ran to me and tried to help but every chance she got, she would look away. I looked up and saw the man that shot Carl.

"Why the hell would you do that? I cant have two of my best friends dead!" I screamed, covering my mouth afterwards. Kaylee looked at me in fear and started running, the way the man told us to find Hershel. I ran behind them and when we finally arrived, Shane comforted Rick. I went past them and went inside to where my best friend was.

"It happened so quick." She said not even turning to me.

"I know." I said.

"And while you helped him, I just stood there." She continued.

"I know."

"Kaitlyn.." She whispered

"What?" I asked her.

"Do you actually think Sophia and Carl are going to die?" She turned to me.

"No. I think Carl is going to be just fine, he is strong." I smiled.

"And Sophia?" She asked.

"Kaylee. She's dead." I tell her.

"How could you possibly say that?" She stood up as I looked away.

"Because.. she was weak. We can't be weak, not anymore." I said as Kaylee stood up and walked outside. I stood up until a blonde girl approached me.

"She just needs time. Her boyfriend was just shot and so I heard, her friend is missing. We can't all be strong like you." She said.

"Who are you?" I ask.

"Beth Greene." She stuck her hand out but I declined and walked into Carl's room. It was empty. I sat in the chair and let a tear fall.

"Hey dude, i'm sure you will be okay. You just need to be strong. We all want you here, so you better not be an ass and leave us." I laugh and then look at his pale body. He looked dead. I kissed his forehead and wiped the cold towel on his face.

"Kaylee is right here for you, I love you." I smiled and walked out as Shane walked in.

"I thought he was dating Kaylee?" He asked.

"He is." I responded.

"Then why is she not visiting him and crying at all." He asked.

"Kaylee, she doesn't like crying. The last time she cried was about when her dog died, age 10. Fourth grade. When her dad was dying, Kaylee never visited him, she gave her mom letters and everything, but all her dad wanted was to see her but she couldn't. He died a couple days later and she didn't cry. It was cancer, but she was a daddy's girl so I never understood. She thinks crying makes her weak, and when she cried about her dog people teased her. She's just scared." I said and Shane nodded.

"She doesn't seem scared. Or weak. She looks like she was ready for this." He told me.

"For what?" I asked.

"For loosing people, not getting attached. The only person she is actually close to is you, Carl, Sophia, and Glenn. I don't even remember having a conversation with her." Shane spoke and I nodded.

"Shes scared of loosing people." I said and left the house. I saw Kaylee and she was reading her book.

"Carls in the room if you want to see him." I sat by her on the porch.

"Im fine." She whispered.

"Kaylee, you need to face the facts that he may not wake up, and if you don't go say anything to him right now and he dies, he will never know if you said goodbye or not. You told me your biggest regret was not visiting your dad. Don't make this mistake again." I said.

"My dads dead. I have faced the facts that Sophia is, and so is Carl." She said and walked away. I sighed and saw a girl on a horse with Lori. She ran to hug Rick and they ran into the room. I ran to the lady.

"Hi, Im Kaitlyn, and you?" I asked.

"Maggie Greene, Hershel's daughter and Beth's step sister." She introduced herself and I nodded.

"Carl's not going to die, right?" I asked.

"Who knows." Maggie said and rode off. I turned to see Kaylee and she just looked at me.

"Kaylee?" I asked. She looked at me for a second then screamed. I put my hand over her mouth until she shushed down. People came outside and then Kaylee fell in my arms.

"What the hell has been going on with her?" Shane asked.

"She's still asleep when she does that. Shes dreaming, more like having a nightmare. Nobody can wake her up, she has to wake herself up, with, well a scream." I tell them. I shake Kaylee awake and she opens her eyes.

"What the hell happened?" She asked.

"Well what do you remember?" I asked.

"A man, he said he is coming for me.. he said he is coming for me." Kaylee panicked and I grabbed her shoulders.

"Kaylee listen to me, it was just a dream, okay? Just a dream." I say.

"It was just a dream?" She asked and I nodded.

"What else do you remember?" I asked her.

"Carl died."
