The next day it rained on the Town hard. The rain got into the cobblestone on the street pathways and made it slippery. The sun did not show, only a plain grey sky. It didn't have any texture, the clouds just smoothed out and covered the sky, leaving not one bit of room for the sun to shine out. I put some leather clothing on and walked out. I had heard the sound of hammer against nail all morning and guessed that Red was building his house. And there he was, building up the walls. But the only thing was, he was using acacia wood instead of oak wood. It was against one of the rules. He had to rebuild it, but luckily he'll only get a fine for it, he wouldn't serve jail time, I know Pineapple isn't harsh on small things.
"Yo, Red." I said to him as I walked up to the plateau. The street curved around the plateau to a more smoother hill up to the house, but walking straight up was quicker.
"Hullo Eli! How you like it? It's almost done, it's a real big area." he said back. His red hair was a little longer it seemed, the rain wiped it down over his face. His pushed it back to see me better. I wondered if he had read the rules yet, maybe that's why he built his house with acacia? I thought. It didn't look the greatest. Almost like an odd man out, it looked significantly different from the other houses.
"You know that your house has to be themed similar to the other houses? It's in the Town Rules. Pineapple put 'em up yesterday, forgot to tell you." I said to him.
"Eh, I bet he wouldn't care." Red said.
"Alright then, don't say I didn't warn you. Take care." I said and walked over to Jack's house.
I knocked on the door. No answer. I knocked again. No answer. Where is he? I walked around the side and went up the ladders to the church. I opened the door to the church and walked in. The candles were out so it was mostly pitch black. I took out a small lighter I had created with flint and steel and lit the two candles by the platform in the front. Jack wasn't in the room. I walked over to the trap door in the corner he told me about and looked down into it. There was another set of ladders going down a long way and I saw a dim light reaching through the door to the ladders. I tried opening the trap door on the floor and to my surprise, it latched open. I slid through and closed it above me.
Once I got down to the basement, I knocked on the door to the basement.
"It's Eli." I said. I heard some foot steps coming closer to the door. The door opened and Jack appeared. His eyebrows lifted in surprise and he pulled me in and shut the door.
"How the hell did you get in here! Does Pineapple know?" He demanded me.
"N-no. I just wanted to tell you that you'll have to take down your tobacco farm. He probably won't care about the Helen Roses." I said to him.
"Oh okay. How do you know I can't have it?" Jack said.
"He just put some rules up last night... I screwed up and got Pineapple suspicious. He said to me that you better get the farm out before else." I replied.
"Dammit Eli. You know how Pineapple can be... I just hope he doesn't punish me. But before I take this down, I want to show you this." I realized that we were in a wide room, but there was wide curtains blocking my sight from the actual farm behind. He turned around from me and slid through the curtains. I followed after.
When I walked through, there were 3 large rows running down to the other side of the room. There were two rows two my right that had many Helen Roses sprouting from the gardening soil. The rows rose up to your waist, so it was easy to pick and handle the flowers. on the left row, there was tobacco. They weren't showing, but Jack had put a sign by each row that read what they were.
"Woah. These Helen Roses are looking really nice. The red's blooming through the petals." I said as I felt one of the roses on the right side.
"Yep. They're almost bloomed fully. Next week they'll be a bright red," he replied. "Next month the tobacco would've sprouted out but it's sad that we have to get rid of it." he explained.
"Yeah... Hey, aren't you cooking the Town dinner tonight?" I asked him. He pulled out a chair and sat down by the middle row of Helen Roses.
"Yeah... I think I'm going to serve some chicken with potatoes tonight. It's all going to be at my house... get here around 7 and that's when Pineapple and Red will be here. It'll be a little awkward with Pineapple being here, since he has an idea that I got something against the rules." he said while running his fingers through the petals of a Rose.
"Cool. I'll be there..." I said. There was a moment of silence until Jack jumped out of his chair.
"I totally forgot to tell you something. Come with me real quick. It's urgent." he said with big eyes. We ran through the curtains and went up the stairs. We went through the church and up onto his roof.
"Look over there, by those steep hills. You see 'em?" he told me as we steadied ourself from being knocked over by the wind. The Town was surrounded by a big L shape steep hill that had land going out from it. It started behind my house, and ran all the way about 200 feet or so and then made a 90 degree turn off to the right. It separated the future Town area from the rest of the world. But to my surprise, there was a pack, no, a wave of the undead slowly making their way down the hills to the Town.
