When all else fails

Chapter 4: Long awaited idea

Justin's POV, present day

From the end of that conversation, we have not talked about the idea of an outside world. But, I have thought about it. As our lives were hectic with the amount of labour we were given, Celestyn and I have not really been talking as we instantly crash once we reach the bed.

But soon, our workload had been decreased. It was not too surprising as we had been working very hard for the past few weeks. It was time for us to relax before we have to get up our gear and work harder.

Justin's POV, a few days later

"What do you think of trying to escape this shelter?" I casually asked Celestyn.

"Are you insane?!" She replied back with a strong tone.

"I'm just sayin', I'm not that crazy." I replied, but my mind objecting what I said.

"Well then, don't try, you will die!" She scolded.

From that day onwards, I got even more curious of what lies outside of the shelter.

Celestyn's POV, present day

After that conversation with Justin, I was wondering more about the world outside. What is it like? Is it like a big dome with different rooms or a free roam world? Will we ever be able to go there? It was like a drug. I keep thinking out it when I was working.

Soon, I could not keep it in anymore. Even though I told Justin not to go out of the shelter, I wanted to leave this shelter and go out to the outside world. I knew that all my friends would think I am absurd, but I know Justin will definitely be on board with the idea.

Celestyn's POV, that night

"Justin?" I asked.

"Yeah, what is it?" He replied

"Have you ever thought of leaving this place?" I asked.

"Yeah. Many times in fact." He replied ever so casually.

"Do you want to escape?" I asked him again.

"You want to? I thought you didn't want to die!" He said. He was jumping for joy. He was super elated with the fact that I wanted to know about the outside world.

Soon, we were starting to plan our escape. It was a crazy idea for the both of us, we did not expect anyone in the shelter to have the same idea as us, but we were wrong. Some of our closest friends decided to join in our operation once we told them what we wanted to do. 

But there was a major issue. Master would not allow us to go out. If we were caught by him we would be executed on the spot. Master was not strict but will punish if you had done any wrongdoings. And he was not light with his punishments. There had already been a few attempts but none successful. From all the horror stories we hear daily.

During our breaks off from work, we would scout around to find places of entry and exit for us. Justin would be scouting around the main security room, as he is posted near that area. I would be looking out for the exits as I walk around the shelter a lot. Our friends were also working on plans to escape. 

Soon, we felt that we had a solid plan to escape with, it isn't the perfect one, but it will get us through the doors. All we needed was courage and some sleeping pills. As I said, not the best plan.

Our plan is to sneak into the main security room when everyone is sleeping. As the shelter is guarded 24/7, we would have to drug the officers which are guarding the security room and the front gate. Then, we would open the main gate, to make our escape.
