When all else fails

Chapter 6: Survival

Justin's POV

We have just escape the deep depth of the shelter and we were running to find salvation. We knew that we would have to find a place to stay in within 3 days, if not we would die of dehydration. Lucky the lessons in school were informative.

"Where do you wanna go to?" I shouted at Celestyn.

"Anywhere is fine! Let's just find some place to stay in!" She shouted back. We were fighting the loud sounds of the sand bashing onto land due to the huge wind speeds. 

We were walking for a long time, it was starting to take a toll on our energy. If we do not find a place to stay soon, I think we will be too tired to continue.

"You okay? You seem tired." I asked Celestyn.

"I'm okay. Let's move faster I think it isn't far away!" She said in a optimistic tone. How I wished that I could be as optimistic as her.

At that, both of us pick up our speed and moved to find a shelter. 

Soon, we saw a plate of lush greenery. We were shocked at the sight. We had thought that the whole world was a sandy desert. We took a moment to absorb the fresh air that we could never breathe if we had stayed in the shelter. Then, we continued to walk on. 

We soon stumbled upon a town. It was in ruins. It looks as if the town had been abandoned for a long time. The town was in disarray. It looked as if people had to leave the place in a hurry. Everything was left as if people just miraculously disappeared. 

While Celestyn went to find a water source, I was looking through all the houses to find something to help us understand the history of this area. 

As I was looking through some houses, I found this journal under some rubble. 

"Day 29/11/2029

Dear Diary, 

The bomb warnings are true! They are bombing our whole earth! We have to run! Hope the children who have been captured are safe to continue humanity! Time to find a place to run to!"

It seems that there was a bombing of the whole world. But why? 

"Day 20/9/2029

Dear Diary,

The people are here! They are here to take away all our children! They have already forced all parents to give up their children for 'the greater good' as they claim. We have to protect all our children!"

Oh, the horror of children being taken away from their parents. It must have been a terrible day for all the parents.

"Day 11/7/2029

Dear Diary,

After scavenging around the area for food, I found this new bunker thingy in the desert nearby! It looked so futuristic, I wonder what is it for. It seems like a bunker for nuclear attacks." 

That must be the bunker we were in. Were we the 'children' that got taken away? Did we belong in this town? 

As I was trying to figure it out, Celestyn shouted to me, "Justin! I found a water source!" 

So I took the journal and went to find celestyn.
