I sat on my bed for a good long while after he left wondering how I could possibly stay away from him. I was falling for him hard and fast without my own consent. I guess if we could control who we fell in love with there wouldn't be as many problems in the world. My heart, and wolf, were goners but my mind kept reminding me of his almost rejection.
"Jordan you know I love you but you aren't helping!" I told her as I held up another dress to my figure. This one was a deep red, low cut and went about mid-thigh.
"No, I don't like that one either. Calm down it's just a party. Only the whole school is going to be there." She gave me a smile as I rolled my eyes. Jordan's birthday party was this tomorrow. She was known for her amazing parties and this is the first one where I actually decided to dress up. She already had her dress stashed away in her room and we were currently at the mall on a Friday after school trying desperately to find the perfect dress for me. She finally got up from the floor she had been sitting on, earing us stares. "Fine, I'll help." I threw her a grateful smile as she searched the endless racks for the dress.
"How about this?" She questioned after only five minutes of looking. I sighed and went to inspect. The dress was black with a tight bodice puffing out at the waist and ending just above the knee. The black material of the dress with the tightness of it gave it a ruff edgy look. The puffy part mixed with the heart shaped top made it girly. I smiled. That was the dress. We found some cute heels to go with. Then we went to get our nails done.
"Do you want to stay over?" She asked me when I pulled into her driveway.
"I can spend the night, but I must go home first." I bit my lip not wanting to tell why. As if sensing my discomfort she looked over.
"Why? Got a hot date?" She was joking and I fake laughed with her. It wasn't a date. He was hot though...
"No, I just am working on a project with a friend."
"Who?" That was news to her. Me having a friend that I don't want to talk about with my best friend.
"Conner," I acted like I was studying my nails.
"Your mate Conner?" She was trying to be cautious. I just nodded not trusting my voice. "Tris, already? It's only been a week and your friends? Just watch your heart my friend." I nodded again and she finally left the car. I breathed a sigh of relief before heading home to prepare.
I'm hungry make me some food
Conner texted thirty minutes before he was suppose to be here. Before I could reply he texted again.
please
I rolled my eyes. Remembering what my grandmother always told me. "The fastest way to a man's heart, my little Tris, is through his stomach." Grandma said I smiled being young a this time. "So if I stab a man I should do it in the stomach?" I hadn't understood at the time. "No, no, for a man to fall for you, you must first be yourself. But even if your self it can be a slow process. You must entrance all his senses. You are beautiful. To your mate your smell will be incomparable. When he touches you he will feel pleasant shocks throughout his body. Your voice is amazing, especially when you sing." She stopped just a second to widely smile at me. "Taste. That is the last sense. You must cook him food. You are a good cook and with all this combined there is no way any male wouldn't have you. Even an Alpha, if you are that lucky." I smiled as the memory faded and a few stray tears fell for my dead Grandmother. I texted him that I would and quickly got to work.
I made chicken seasoned with chill pepper and a couple others. Then I made homemade biscuits, gravy, and mashed potatoes. I was finishing up with making sweet tea when a knock sounded on the door.
"It's open!" I hollered and started setting two places on the table for us.
"What is that smell?" His voice held surprise and happiness.
"Lunch," I said innocently as I placed the last thing on the table taking a seat.
"I meant a sandwich or something. This looks amazing!" I smiled as he sat and started eating. He was scarfing it down pretty fast and I had to remind him many times to slow down or he'd choke.
"Your a really good cook."
"Really? You didn't give me much time to prepare I could have done better..."
"I don't think you could have." He challenged.
"I'll show you I can!"
"When?"
"Any time."
"I'll take you up on that." Wait, what? Oh goodness my pride has gotten me into another situation.
"Let's work on our project," I said not wanting to get myself into something else. I took out some pictures I had been working on to put on the board. "Do you think these are alright to put on our board or are they not good enough." I really cared what he thought. But only because it was both our grades. Or because he's our mate. My wolf said and I mentally told her to shut her mouth. One picture was a deer because that was Artemis's animal. The next was of Artemis herself. I looked at him hopefully.
"These are... I don't know what to say... They're just so..." I felt my face fall.
"Not good? It's ok to say it."
"NO! Of course that's not what I meant. These are just to good for such mundane words and my vocabulary isn't big enough for words more fitting to what could describe these magnificent pieces of art." My eyes widened as I smiled hugely. I threw my arms around him in a hug, ignoring the sparks that flew where our skin touched. After our hug I looked up to realize his face was dangerously close to my upturned one. I felt my eyelids lower and his did the same. Our lips moving closer when my phone suddenly started blaring as did his. We broke apart, him with a curse. Each of us answering our phones.
"We need you now! There is a rouge attack."
I dropped my phone and turned to Conner, he apparently got the same message. He could tell from my face that telling me to stay would only set him back with me so he reluctantly told me to follow him.
