The Vampire Diaries star, age twenty-four, was found dead in a hotel room at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel & Suites in Los Angeles, local police stated Tuesday.
According to the LAPD, emergency personnel arrived at the hotel shortly after 7 PM, hours after Thoreau was supposed to check out of the hotel, and it was there that he was pronounced dead. The coroner is investigating the cause of death, though foul play is not suspected.
Usually residing in San Diego, the actor was reportedly only in Los Angeles to attend the 60th Anniversary Benefit Gala for the Humane Society of the United States alongside his Vampire Diaries costars. After that, it would be presumable that he'd return to the UK to be with his family for the holidays.
Most widely known for his role in The Vampire Diaries, Thoreau also appeared in shows like Grey's Anatomy, Gossip Girl, and Dexter. His fame was also strongly boosted by his long-term friendship with Walking Dead star, Lexa Sommers.

Neither his family nor his friends have spoken out about his shocking death, though the actor's rep released a statement saying she was, "extremely saddened to confirm the reports of Daniel Thoreau's death."
