Betty and Sissy exit the diner and walk to their SUV. Crickets chirp in the distance.

"Nothing like a late night snack to knock you out, Betty says.

"Yeah, any more sugar and I'll spaz," Sissy adds.

They laugh.

"Hey, ever notice how the locals emphasize the first part of words?" Sissy says, scrunching up her face with emphasis.

"What do you mean, hon?"

"Well, like PEE-can pie, and let's watch some TEE-v."

Across the parking lot, on his rusted-out moped, Creepy Guy watches the girls. He blows the same odd four note sequence on his harmonica.

"Hey girls, what'chya doin?"

Startled, Sissy snorts, "What's it look like, genius?"

She walks over to the ugly kid and gets up in his face. "Hey, isn't it past your bedtime?

"Ain't no call to be rude," he says.

Betty touches Sissy's arm. "Sorry, but we've had a long day. She didn't mean anything by it," Betty says, heading toward their SUV. "Right?"

As Sissy walks away, Betty unlocks the SUV doors and waves goodbye to Creepy Guy.

"I can see you're just gonna stick your big city nose into business that ain't yours," he says.

Sissy spins around.

"What? Maybe it is our business...pretty boy."

"Jus' trying to warn ya's all," he mumbles.

"Warning how?"

Frozen, he can't decide whether to answer or to leave.

"Let's just say your sis didn't exactly...go away on vacation."

Sissy is running out of patience. "Hey, nimrod, you wanna just cut to the chase?"

"Sissy," Betty stops her.

"Hey, ya'll are the nimrods, if you think you kin jus' roll inta town and take what you want."

Betty and Sissy eyeball one another.

"What are you talking about?" Betty asks.

Creepy Guy starts his moped. The fumes cloud the parking lot.

He mumbles, "Your sister knew what I was talking about."

"Watch it, smart ass," Sissy barks.

As he puts his bike into gear, Betty walks back over to get in his face. He doesn't budge.

"You're here for the same reason everybody else comes diggin' around these parts."

Just then, Deputy Leonard's car pulls up quietly across the parking lot.

Creepy spots it out of the corner of his eye and watches the Deputy's car come to a stop.

"What are you babbling about?" Betty asks.

Creepy Guy shifts his nervous focus from the squad car to Betty, then back to the Deputy's car.

Deputy Leonard sits still, sipping on hot coffee, slowly stuffing a donut into his mouth.

Betty turns to stare at the car, then back to Creepy.

"She would'na had to disappear if she'd just kept her mouth shut."

Betty's had it, and grabs his shirt. "Listen, if you know something, you best be telling me."

He looks down at her hands then to her slightly open blouse. Her ample boobs show. He enjoys it. She isn't.

Pushing her away, he says, "Git your hands offa me, lady" then drives off.

Betty and Sissy turn to the Deputy's car across the parking lot.

Deputy Leonard nears spits out his coffee. "Shit!"

Tossing the coffee cup out the window, he puts his car in reverse and leaves.

They watch Creepy Guy going in one direction, and the Squad Car going in the other.

"What the hell?" Sissy asks.

"No doubt" Betty adds.
