The sun shone through the window of the bedroom, the rays of light dancing across my face.
Lukas was beside me, still snoring.
I smiled, thinking about how cute he was when he slept.
Quietly, I slipped out of the bed, placing the covers back where they went.
I went across the room to the bathroom, where I picked up my toothbrush, brushing my teeth.
I looked at my reflection in the mirror-
My long black hair was messy, and I was wearing a grey band t-shirt, with pink chevron patterned pants.
I used the bathroom, then walked into the kitchen- looking at the sun, it's light shining brightly through the room.
I started the coffee machine, pressing a sequence of buttons.
I saw my phone on the counter.
I picked it up, and there was a text from Axel.
Axel?
He never texted me unless it was something important.
I unlocked my phone, being greeted Axel's text.
Olivia went into labor. We're at the hospital now. I'll tell you if anything changes.
He sent that right after Lukas and I fell asleep last night- about 8:00.
They wanted the baby's sex to be a surprise for everyone else, and I was practically dying of suspense.
I looked at the text, feeling sick.
I was happy for Axel and Olivia and all... But thinking about a child made me sad.
Lukas and I have been scared about what would happen if we went down that road-
After all, Doctor Jackston wanted to see the possibilities of a mutated child...
Which gives all the more reasons why it shouldn't happen.
I mean, not like I would want to have a baby... But it would be nice I guess...
Petra was completely grossed out by the concept of children, blocking the thought out immediately.
I felt really bad for Olivia...
I can only imagine how she feels...
I heard soft whistling behind me, Lukas walking into the kitchen.
I was so caught up in my thoughts, that I don't realize that he had gotten up, brushed his teeth, and had walked into the kitchen, wearing his blue shirt and red pants.
I'm so oblivious sometimes.
"Good morning." I smiled.
Lukas smirked, bending over to kiss me on the cheek.
"Nice to see you too, darling."
I took mugs out of the cabinet, handing one to Lukas.
I poured milk and sugar in mine, Lukas doing the same with his.
We stood there, drinking our coffee in silence, looking out the window at the forest beyond.
"Have you heard anything from Axel and Olivia?" Asked Lukas, taking a sip of coffee. "Olivia's due soon..."
"Axel told me that she went into labor in the middle of the night..." Lukas's eyes widened. "He said that he'd let us know when something important happens."
Lukas ran his fingers through his hair-
Something he always does if he's thinking about something or he is nervous.
"Sometimes I wonder what it'd be like if we had children..." I muttered, causing Lukas to pause.
"Jesse you know that it's not a good idea...." Huffed Lukas, looking sad. "Who knows what would happen?"
Silence.
"Of course... I was just thinking..." I sighed, taking another sip of coffee. "I shouldn't have brought it up.."
Lukas looked at me, warmth in his sky-blue eyes.
"It's okay, Jesse..." He forced a smile. "I mean, maybe someday... But not too soon."
I pushed the thought out of my mind, and my phone buzzed.
I pulled it out, and it was another text from Axel.
It was a success. U two can come by tomorrow. I'm sure Olivia will be glad to see u guys- the others r coming too, so be prepared for squealing by Harper. I gtg, hope everything's okay with you guys. Olivia says hi (under all the screaming). Ttyl.
I handed my phone so Lukas, who read the text.
"It didn't take too long for her..." I paused, trying to think about how the baby looked.
"Yeah..." Mumbled Lukas, staring off into space.
He handed my phone back, and I turned it off, placing it back down on the counter.
"Well I guess that we have the day to ourselves..." I trailed off, smiling.
"I guess so..." Lukas smirked. "What do you want to do?"
I walked over to the fridge, pulling out a pint on ice cream from the freezer.
"I'm watching The blocking dead and eating ice cream. Whatever you want to do is fine with me."
I walked over to the couch in the den, turning on the TV.
Lukas sat down next to me, wrapping a blanket around both of us.
"Let me have some!" He laughed, pointing to the ice cream.
I had already dug into the carton, the spoon in my mouth.
I smirked, pulling the spoon out of my mouth and putting it back into the carton.
"Go ahead..." I sighed, annoyed.
Lukas took a spoonful of ice cream, smiling.
"Happy?" I asked.
"Yes." Lukas smiled....
The antiseptic burned my nose, sending horrible memories appearing in my mind.
My heart was racing, and I had my eyes squeezed shut, trying to block out everything...
My head was pressed against the wall, Jesse hugging me from behind.
"Lukas..." Breathed Jesse, her voice shaky. "I'm here. Don't drift off..."'You will never get over what I did to you two. I will never go away. I'll always be here. Always watching.'
'This won't hurt a bit.'
The bottom was pushed, causing me to scream.
They never gave me a break...
Jesse...Tears streamed down my face, and I felt myself trembling.
"Are you two... Okay?" I heard a woman, sounding disturbed.
"We're okay, thank you..." Sighed Jesse, her answer terse.
"Are you sure, I mean..."
"We're sure..." Growled Jesse. "Please leave us alone. His sister just died."
The woman seemed to leave, footsteps clicking down the hallway.
Jesse comes up with the best excuses.
"She's gone...." Soothed Jesse, running her fingers through my hair. "Think about the future. Think about when I put salt in my coffee instead of sugar. Think about watching sunsets. Think about walks in the forest. Think about how we're together. Think about how much I love you."
I tried pushing the memories out of my head, knowing that they'll only be back later.
Jesse took my hand, and I turned around, looking in her eyes.
"We've got to be strong..." Said Jesse, her voice wavering. "We can't let them see us like this."
I hated how life was this unfair.
Why did I have to be so weak?!
All I ever do is cry.
And I shouldn't even be sad.
"There's room 304..." Sighed Jesse, pushing her hair behind her.
She turned to me.
She wiped a year off my face, forcing a smile.
"They can't know that we're falling apart on the inside..." Sighed Jesse, her voice just above a whisper. "We've got to act strong. Remember that I know how you feel... Remember that we're considered strong. We have to act like it."...
"They're right there..." Axel beamed, pointing to two babies wrapped in alternate blankets.
The first one was a girl, Caucasian, with a wisp of black hair in her head. Her eyes were squeezed shut, and her hand was clasped into the hand of her brother.
The boy had caramel-colored skin, and he was screaming.
"The girl's name is Charlotte, and the boy is Nathan."
I looked at them, smiling.
"Charlotte and Nathan..." Lukas smiled. "Welcome to the world."
