A/N: I've discovered that I basically fuel off of dialogue. 😂 lol Well, I'm working on it. Do y'all like the dialogue or not? Any recommendations? Feel free to comment below!!! Thanks! <3 Kitty
I held my breath until I heard the footsteps leave from the door. The lights were still out when I exited into the hallway. I groped along the wall and back down the stairs. The heavy footsteps started back up. I began running with the chicken.
"Ah!" I exclaimed, colliding with a body and falling on top of it. Finally, the lights turned back on. At this point I realized I was crying as I ran, and I still had tear stains on my face. I looked down at the person who I was on top of. Brecken.
"Keep him away from me! Help me, please. He's gonna hurt me!" I said quickly, not caring that I had fallen on him.
"Woah... Hunter. What's wrong?" he asked. I shook my head, not able to say a thing. "Come with me. What's up with the chicken?" He moved over and helped me up after standing up himself.
"It... It wouldn't go into the coop so it followed me," I explained.
"Let's go to my room and you can explain what happened," he suggested. I followed Brecken over to the back door.
"Wait, your room's outside?" I asked.
"No. It's in the staff house building. The one that the innkeepers and staff live in," he explained.
"And me," I pointed out.
"And you," he repeated. I did not know Mavis and Hilton let other people live in the staff house. We ran through the rain and ended up soaked again. We started laughing and ran into Brecken's room. It was actually right across the hallway from my room.
"Here," he said, throwing me a big t-shirt. He pulled his shirt off and shook his head, spraying me with water.
"Hey!" I exclaimed. I stripped off my shirt. Throwing on the big shirt Brecken gave me, I looked at him and bit my lip a little. I pulled off my shorts and threw them in a pile in front of my room.
"So..." Brecken said. He sat on his bed in a dry pair of pants. He was still not wearing a shirt. Really man? His tattoos were pretty cool though.
Patting the bed next to him, he asked, "What happened back there?"
"I-I don't even know..." I tried to explain everything without crying.
"Woah... It's like out of a movie," Brecken said. "I'm so sorry... Is there anything I can do?"
"I don't know..." I replied.
"Why don't I hang out more with you tomorrow? I'll make sure no one does anything like that," Brecken suggested.
"Sure... That would be good," I said from my spot next to him on the bed. The thunder boomed, and I swore it shook the earth. I jumped at the sound, and sure enough the lights went out again. Looking around, I was yet again blind.
"Brecken?" I asked, groping around. I felt his bare chest. "Oh..."
"Found me yet?" He asked. "Will you sing again?" I bit my lip in the darkness and moved backwards until my back hit the headboard. I could feel Brecken moving on the bed. "Please?"
"I don't know... I don't sing often..." I admitted.
"Come on!" He exclaimed.
"Okay, okay..." I said. I started to sing the song Iris by Goo Goo Dolls. In the darkness of room, my voice filled the entire space. I felt Brecken next to me. The rescued hen clucked from the ground. I had totally forgotten about her. I ignored her and kept singing. Brecken moved closer to me. My heart jumped into my throat, but I continue still. This was not how I expected spending my night. Maybe I was not a loner anymore.
