The mountain this time of year was usually cold and dead silent, but tonight the wind was whipping and howling against the cabin, the trees violently swayed as the snow started falling. I woke up in bed with the air as cold as the ice outside. My husband who was sound asleep suddenly awoke when he felt the bed shift from me sitting up. His dark blue eyes seemed to glow as they flickered open to find me getting up.
Nothing in the world made him happier then being out here with me, and of course our daughter. As I started to lift myself up from the bed he reached out and grabbed my wrist. "Where're you goin'?" He asked with his face still up against his pillow. I smiled as I stared at him, he hasn't changed a bit. "I'm going to go check on Rose darling. The power went out again and it's starting to get cold." I said as I started to make my way towards my daughters room. Logan sat up and rubbed his face, he started looking for clothes to put on so he could brave the cold and see if he could fix the power. I came into my daughters room, she had just woke up because of the storm. She sat up and as she saw me enter her room she asked "Mama, did the power go out again?"
I looked in her crystal blue eyes that resembled her fathers and replied "Unfortunately, yes baby. It did. Let's get you down to mommy and daddy's room for the night ok?" I smiled as I picked her up. Before I left the room I looked over, Rose had a window that normally you could see down the mountain. There was a river you could usually see but it was now covered in ice and snow. The once lush evergreen trees were now wrapped in a white frost. About the time we made it back to our room, Logan came back in, and was covered in the white fluff. He took off his jacket and boots as he sat down at the edge of the bed. "Generators' toast. There's no way we can find a new one this time O' year, either. We're gonna have to leave tomorrow mornin'." Logan stated bluntly and a little annoyed. I sighed as it always came to this every winter, we'd always have one freezing cold night before we officially had to leave the cabin for the rest of the winter season. I placed Rose on the bed, she scurried for the covers of Logan and I's bed. "Alright, I'll get the extra blankets." I said as I walked out. I came back with our heavy winter covers and started to stack them one over the other as we always had to do each winter. Rose was already fast asleep, comfy and warm underneath all the blankets. As me and Logan finished, we got under the covers and laid close to Rose. We looked at each other slightly both knowing what the other was thinking. "How did we get so lucky?" We laid there for a good while listening to the wind whip against the cabin once more before we both fell asleep close to our daughter, in a warm embrace.
