It was cold, bitter in fact. The type of bitter cold that made life a living nightmare. Not only was the cold miserable, your situation was punishable by law. You had lived quietly with your family for as long as you could remember. Small town life had its downsides, but it was comfortable none the less. Things started to change once the new chief of police took over. A strange uneasy feeling hung over the town, hatred soured the once sweet atmosphere and the days grew darker for your kind.
Mutants have always been a hot topic in your small community. You would always joke saying "I'd die of embarrassment before I'd tell someone I was a mutant." Which was not the case anymore. As you weakly glanced over to your little ray of sunlight breaking through the harsh darkness. You started to say goodbye to this life and what fondness you had for your family, wishing, praying you had one more chance to make it right. Your little ray of light was suddenly blocked, you didn't care. You closed your eyes and waited for the end. A tear rolled down your cheek and you begged for your mom and dad to forgive you and somehow meet them again. Right as the darkness started to consume you, you heard a muffled conversation, hearing things like "Is that the last one?" or "Are there more? Come on we have to keep looking!" You heard the voices come closer, you kept your eyes closed, you didn't care if they killed you, what did you have to lose? One of the voices rough and commanding spoke up, sniffing the air and noticing something. "Elf, did'ja check this one?" The voice asked. "No not yet." A softer younger voice answered. It was music to your ears. You'd never heard a voice like this before. You heard a fiery pop; a "bamf" kind of sound before you could smell sulfur swallowing you up. You coughed, opening your eyes to finally see who and what was going on. The little ray of light had returned to your cell, smoke choking what sun there was; after the smoke had slightly cleared, the rays hit your rescuer at just the right point to where it looked like he was wrapped in a cloak of light, like an angel. You were picked up by the figure and you fell comfortably asleep. That was months ago, turns out your rescuer was a young man, or mutant by the name of Kurt Wagner. You had been taken to a school for the gifted, for your kind. Over the course of a few months, you and Kurt became close friends, him helping you with whatever he could and you learning the ropes of being gifted. Ever since you left that horrid place, you had been having night terrors. You felt the cold creeping back to your skin, the darkness engulfing you, and death waiting to take you. What you didn't know was, you would scream during these episodes, waking up the entire floor with you. Kurt was woken up by the screaming of his best friend, maybe even the one he loved. He dashed (and teleported) to your room. He saw you struggling to wake up but you couldn't, not by yourself anyway. Kurt, in pain at the sight of his best friend suffering, rushed over to you and grabbed your shoulders shaking you saying "Wake up (Y/N) Wake up! Its just a dream, its just a dream!!" You violently opened your eyes to see Kurt grasping your shoulders in your room in the school, nice and safe. You calmed down for a moment realizing what happened. Tears began to well up, you covered your face and started to cry uncontrollably. Kurt released his grip on your shoulders and started to lift himself off your bed, seeing how awkward the situation had become or threatened to be. you felt the bed shift you looked up seeing Kurt trying to leave. You spoke up, barely able to utter the words because of the lump in your throat. "Please don't leave Kurt, I Trust you." Kurt Stopped and looked back at you with tears freely falling from your now reddened eyes. Kurt slowly crept back and sat down on the edge of your bed. You continued crying a little longer before Kurt asked why you were crying, and what was the nightmare about. You got yourself together enough to explain that you felt like you were back there, in the cell on that day you thought it would all end. Kurt took your hand, kissed it lightly. The gesture threw you off, but it felt right. You started crying again. He cupped your face so he could look at you. The moonlight encircled his midnight blue skin and made it glow. He Grasped you in a firm embrace and softly spoke. "Hey, Calm down, They can't get you anymore." He comforted. The rest of the night was spent calming down, Kurt made you some tea to help you relax. when all was said and done, he left the room when you where sound asleep thinking about the future and what it may hold for you two.
