Nineteen Years Later

Dear Shadow,

It's been a while, has it not? How are you?

I don't meant to bother you, but to be completely honest... I'm scared.

I became an auror while you've been away and it's everything I hoped for and more. However, tomorrow is it, the last run. We've managed to get all the remaining Death Eaters in once place and will be attacking tomorrow. The war we've been fighting since that faithful Halloween, all those years ago, will finally be over. But what then? When the battle is won, what do I do next Shadow?

I shan't think about what might happen if we don't win.

All in all, Shadow, this is it I guess. If I am to die tomorrow then Harry shall look after my son, my Scorpius.

But you and James get everything else.

I love Draco as you loved Shade, but I fear he will be by me when I fall.

Hopefully I will see you soon,

Jenny, xxxxx

P.S. - I heard rumour that Teddy was snogging Victoire the other day.

I stared at the parchment, unblinking. I guessed that this would happen, that Jenny would begin to doubt herself and feel her nearing death through dream's eyes. My throat constricted tightly but I made no motion that symbolized the fear and sadness I felt for the friend I had not seen in just under a year.

"What is it?" Nova asked, "Did Jenny send you something? I recognized her owl." I looked up briefly to see the Night Claw standing nearby in the clock tower doorway, Hawthorne at her side as always.

She had become the Gryffindor guardian many, many years ago, always on hand when a student was in need. She married Hawthorne five years back and he almost never left her side; they'd agreed not to have any more kittens (at least not within the next twenty years) because the death of their first two litters had hit them harder than they'd originally thought.

I tucked the scroll into my satchel swiftly and shook my head, "Nothing important."

I had become the Hogwarts guardian almost as soon as I had returned from my three year trip after the Battle of Hogwarts; roughly sixteen years ago. Reluctant to return to the graveyard my family still remained in, and without a purpose, McGonagall offered me the chance to bring meaning back into my life; and so, with all that said and done, I decided that it was time I protected the new students from the world outside.

"I'm sure you're needed somewhere- oh, and send James up here, would you? I need to talk to him." I said, dragging a hand through my darkened locks, gaze fixed on the landscape. Nova chuckled, turned on her heel and disappeared down the corridor.

James had not yet found love, but had been searching for what seemed to be a lifetime. Sometimes he would be around, other times he would not; I often found him cleaning his family's graves. Lupin, Tonks, Sirius, Otto- he'd offered to make Shade, Snowy, Tobias, Olive, Kapok, Ivy and the second litter of Nova's kittens, but Nova and I had turned it down.
