Flashback to McCoy/Haines wedding day
"This is not right..." Riley sighed, pacing around her room while rubbing her now nauseous stomach. "I-..." She paused, plopping down on the floor. "My brother doesn't even know about any of this." She pointed out, gesturing to the window where lots of people were waiting. "I don't think I can do this." Riley cried, putting her hands over her face.
"Riley, don't ruin your makeup, honey." Isabella said from her spot on the bed. "Everything is going to be okay." She stood, walking over to the weeping woman. "Sweetheart, everything will be okay. I had cold feet when I married Edward's father-"
"That's an understatement." A male voice came from the doorway. "Izzy, why don't you go give Ed pep talk so I can chat with Riley?" He offered, receiving a nod from his wife. Once she left, William crouched next to Riley's shaking form on the floor. "You alright, kiddo?"
She shook her head, her breath quivering. Her eyes looked up into his as they filled with tears. "Mr. Haines, I don't think I can do this... I-..." Riley trailed off, choking out a sob. Will wrapped his arms around her and rubbed her back gently, his heartbeat calming her down slightly. "I bring chaos..." She whispered into his shoulder.
Will motioned for her to copy his actions in standing up, his arms now crossing over his chest. "I've known you for about a year, Riles... But I see the way my son looks at you and the way you look at him." He paused, rolling his eyes playfully. "The kid doesn't shut up about you, doll." He sighed, giving a reassuring smile. "You'll be fine."
Riley smiled through her tears, her thumb gently wiping them away. She took another glance out the window, knowing she should get out there soon. "Alright..." She breathed out, her eyes darting around the room before they landed on the dress hanging on a hook. "Thank you..." Tiley whispered, hugging William once more before he nodded and left the room to give her privacy to change.
--Time Skip--
Riley swallowed the lump that had formed in her throat as she stood in front of the man she was about to spend the rest of her life with. Flashes of Erik and the past events in her life appeared in her mind with each beat of her heart, each one more heartbreaking than the rest.
"You.. You what?" Riley looked in front of her, her eyes landing on the door. "Erik please..." Tears fell from her eyes as she screamed his name at the top of her lungs into the empty house. She was alone. Truly and utterly alone. Her hands pounded on the floor as she continued to scream and cry, her throat beginning to burn. Memories from the night he abandoned her continued to play in her mind, her sanity declining with each one.
"Riley, repeat after me." The pastor said, breaking her out of her thoughts. "I Riley,"
Riley took a shaky breath, her body going numb as she glanced at the huge amount of people. "I-I, Riley..."
"Take you Edward..."
Her heart began to beat faster and faster with each word. "Take you Edward..."
"I'm...Riley McCoy." She dragged out, her eyes full of sadness and lack of sleep as they looked up at the therapist in front of her.
The man smiled down at her, a hand reaching out for her to shake. "It's very nice to meet you, Riley. I'm Dr. Edward Haines." He said gently, seeing her staring down at his outstretched hand. Edward cleared his throat before moving to close the door behind her, gesturing for her to sit on the couch as he did so.
"You're married?" Riley asked through the silence while he looked for her information file.
"Huh? Oh..." He paused his actions, following her eyes to the framed picture on his desk. "Uh, no. Not anymore." He said sadly, clearing his throat before taking the picture and placing it in the bin next to his desk. "Been meaning to throw that out."
"To be my lawfully wedded husband..." Riley said, her mouth becoming dry. "To have and to hold..."
"Riley, I realize I don't deserve to be forgiven for what's just happened..." Erik broke the silence in her room from his spot in the doorway. "But you have to understan-"
"Erik." She warned, standing from the bed and walking over to him. "I'm not mad... I'm..." Riley paused, crossing her arms over her chest and sighing. "Sad... We just left Charles, Erik... He needed us now more than ever and we just vanished."
Erik's eyes looked over her scratched up face, his lips forming into a frown. "I'm sorry."
Riley's head lifted up to look at the man in front of her. She studied his face for a moment before noticing how close they were getting to each other. Before she knew it, their lips touched softly and she melted into him.
"In sickness and in health." She continued, tears stinging the back of her eyes as she recalled so many things that have effected her.
"I love you." Erik said tiredly, catching her off guard.
"This is..." Edward paused to chuckle, his hand finding hers. "This is terribly inappropriate seeing as you're my patient." He sighed, squeezing her hand gently. "I'm-..I-..." He huffed, not quite being able to say it. "Oh, fuck it. I'm in love with you."
Riley's eyes travelled from the ground up to Edward's, a smile forming on her lips. "Until death do we part."
A/N: Not eventful but I got to use Jeffrey Dean Morgan and you got to see inside Riley's head while she was getting married to Edward. So. I realized Riley's face claim is K-Stew. I named Henry's Edward. I was going for Edward Nygma. But I just realized... Edward Cullen :|
