Calvin didn't feel like partying. Mercy had dumped him because he was moving too fast and she couldn't say three words, eight letters. Jal, his roommate, was trying to convince him to come.
"Calvin, this is a start of year party to celebrate our final year," Jal fixed his t-shirt. "And to unite against the villains. It's important for everyone and if I can't get you to, I'll go over your head." Almost on cue, Bri and Callie walked in, arms crossed. Bri raised her eyebrows.
"Listen up, Cal," She seemed taller when she was angry. "You loved her, I get that but just because she broke your heart doesn't mean you put your life on hold for it." Calvin stood up, hands up.
"I'll go but only because you're scary when you're angry," Bri bowed. "I'm lucky that you're my best friend." He was about to leave when the three of them blocked the way. Callie looked him up and down.
"Calvin, you aren't going in that," Jal opened Calvin's wardrobe. "Sit down and we'll decide what you're wearing." Mercy stood outside, hand up to knock but walked away, not wanting to hurt Calvin anymore. Mercy walked into her room with Evanna and sat down on her sofa. Evanna frowned at her.
"I thought you were going to apologise to Calvin," Mercy shrugged. "Mercy, why are you running away? You love him, right?" Mercy examined her nails.
"I don't know what love feels like," She rubbed the back of her neck. "Downside of having dragon blood, you don't feel anything except anger and hate." Evanna pursed her lips.
"Don't use your mother's heritage as an excuse," She gestured at a picture of Mercy and Mitch. "Mitch has been in love with Sam White since day one and I think he's going to make his move," Mercy frowned. "What?"
"Mitch never told me that he was in love with Sam," She scratched her head. "He's never really told me anything about his social life ever." Evanna rolled her eyes.
"Mercy, your relationship with your brother's one sided," Evanna stood up. "Now, I'm going to make sure my wimp brother doesn't wuss out of kissing Charlie White." Mercy frowned.
"But that's against the unspoken rule," Evanna rolled her eyes. "What? It is." Evanna clapped.
"Hypocrite of the year goes to Mercy," Mercy looked confused. "Calvin's father is Philip who used to be Prince Charming, remember?" Evanna left Mercy and walked right into Jal. Jal caught her. "I need to stop walking into guys and having them catch me before I fall." Jal realised he was still holding her and let go.
"May I walk you to the party?" He offered his arm and she took it with a smile. They started walking and Jal knew he was going to regret about what he was going to ask. "Evanna, about what happened over the summer, are we ever going to talk about it?" Evanna looked down at her scuffed boots.
"Jal, I'm not sure what you want from me," She was lying and both of them knew it. "What do you want from me?" They reached the door to the party and Jal kissed her. She kissed back and deepened it until someone coughed, breaking them apart. Evan looked pissed and Evanna smiled at Jal. "Please run inside or he'll kill you."Jal usually would've ran inside but this time he stayed and seemed confident.
"Evan, I know she's your sister but she likes me," Evanna nodded. "And I like her, there's nothing you can do to stop that." Evan smirked.
"Jal, you're a brave little ant, aren't you?" Jal hid his confusion at being called an ant. "You have my permission to date Eva but you break her heart, I break your neck," He smiled Evanna. "About Charlie, do I just kiss her or...?" Jal smiled.
"You need some sort of lead up like..." He clicked his fingers. "Dancing. Girls like a guy who can dance and I mean ballroom, slow dance not break dancing...Although that could get Sam White but not Charlie." Evan nodded and walked into the party to get blasted by Taylor Swift. He spotted Charlie watching a couple dance and walked over to her. She smiled at him as Daughtry started playing.
