How to be a Failure

Heart pounding like battle drums.
Each beat like miniscule atomic bombs.
I can feel the throbbing beat,
Pulsating from my head to feet.

The court was boiling with tension.
I am now on the right position.
Sweat trickling down my neck.
I am now the ace of the deck.

Breathe in, breathe out.
Make it in or forget everything.
Breathe in, breathe out.
I'll hit the ball or this will be nothing.

I sent the ball flying
Into the other side of the net.
Yes! I made it in but this is just the beginning.
They sent it back, this time I will set.

Breathe in, breathe out.
Set it high or die trying.
Breathe in, breathe out.
I'll set it high, I'll do my thing.

My tiny fingers touched the ball.
I tossed it as high as possible.
Damn! It's to high for the ace!
But, oh well. She spiked it with feigning grace.

Breathe in, breathe out.
Now, watch the ball or never see it again.
Breathe in, breathe out.
My eyes on it, I'm counting from one to ten.

Then, the world suddenly turns into a slow motion.
The crowd's voice faded into conclusion.
I ran to where the ball will fall.
I took a dive in attempt to save us all.

I scraped my knees and broke my thumb!
Yet, the ball fell off the ground.
Shock and disappoinment were written in my face,
As I lay defeated on the cold and empty space.
