Everything felt weird. Stephanie was too scared to open her eyes. She was too scared to face the devil. She wasn't in heaven. She was a murder. She did not deserve God's mercy. But if this was hell then it sure smelled good. The smell was very familiar. It had her wolf purring. The memories soon flooded back to her. She wasn't dead.

She turned her head and slowly opened her eyes. Her mate laid next to her. He was still sleeping.

He looked different. He was no longer the scrawny weakling of the pack. She tried her hardest not to think of Liam. But there were always nights when she would lay under the stars and think of the what ifs. What if she had accepted him?  Her life would of been completely different. Perhaps she would living happily ever after; married with kids. Or perhaps she would of been dead. She was selfish and horrible to Liam. She did not deserve to be his mate.

Liam started to stir in his sleep. But Stephanie refused to take her eyes off of him. Everything seemed unreal.  Fate brought them back together. She ran as far as she could from her past. But it still wasn't far enough.

Stephanie suddenly felt a pang on her neck. Her hand slowly touched the nape of her neck as she felt two fang marks indented. Liam had marked her. Her wolf was purring in satisfaction. But her human side was beyond terrified. Memories of Thorn rushed back to her. He was her mate and then he died. It took her years to get over that loss. She couldn't bear for Liam to die as well.

Jack was still after her. He would stop at nothing to get to her. She has run from him. She has been caught by him. She has faced his wrath. She has escaped. But she lived in constant fear and danger of being found again. If she stayed Liam's pack would have the same fate as Thorn's and her old pack. Death.

Liam's eyes began to awaken. They slowly opened and met with hers. He thought he was still dreaming. It had been a week of Stephanie's lifeless body laying next to him. But he was feeling emotions that weren't his.

Because Liam marked Stephanie his wolf was able to pick up on her emotions, even from far away. Stephanie was not able to pick up on Liam's emotions because she had not marked him.

Stephanie's eyes were not the same as Liam had remembered. They were still hazel. But they lacked energy. They seemed dead and lifeless compared to how they use to be.

"W-what did you do to me?" Stephanie's voice was soft and hoarse. To Liam, she sounded like an angel. His wolf was pleased that his mate had finally awaken.

"I saved you," Liam prompted himself up on his elbow. He examined his mate's face. There was still the dark circles around her eyes and paleness of her skin that worried him.

"I didn't want saving," she said which only upset Liam. She would of died if he did not step in.

"I marked you," Liam said with full confidence which Stephanie had never seen him display before, "I am not the weak omega that you use to know. I am an alpha now. I am strong and I refuse to allow you to reject me."

He was everything she had asked for. But that was five years ago.

Stephanie scoffed at him, "You think you can protect me? I have enemies with enemies. It's a never ending cycle of hate and death. "

"There is no need to worry about that, I can protect you. I can make you happy!" Liam knew that he wasn't getting through to his mate. She was stubborn, but he also didn't know anything that she had been going through for the last five years. All he could feel from her was pain.

Stephanie refused to look at him anymore. She couldn't bare it. She would be the cause of the death of him and his pack.

"I called the pack doctor," Liam said, his voice was a lot softer than before.

The weight on the bed suddenly shifted as Liam got off. She watched him enter the bathroom. He exited with brand news clothes on and cleanly washed face. He was quite handsome.

"I have Alpha duties to attend to," Liam said looking over his mate one more time. He hated leaving her, but he had to. His pack needed him and he needed them to become stronger so that they could protect Stephanie.

Stephanie starred at him with no emotions as he left the room. She tried getting up but found the pain on her chest too much. She looked down at her wound to see it was the worst one yet. She wasn't healing.

The soft knock at the door captured her attention. She didn't say anything as a small woman entered the room. She was a young and very pretty. But looked weak. Stephanie could easily break all her bones. She examined her patient with a sort of sorrowfulness that Stephanie hated.

"My name is Dr. Kate," she said as she came closer to her patient. Stephanie eyes starred at her. Kate had no idea what to do. She felt that Stephanie could react in many different ways.

"I need to change your bandages," Dr. Kate said as she slowly removed the bandage from her patients bite wound. Stephanie starred at the doctor, not letting her eyes leave her for a moment.

"The pack is very excited to meet you," Dr. Kate said, "We are happy that our Alpha has found his Luna."

Stephanie felt disgusted by the title of Luna. It was something she had so dreamed of. It reminded her of the past. It reminded her of Claire and John.

Kate felt awkward as silence ensued between them. Even though she was about her patients age, she felt super uncomfortable. She couldn't imagine the horrors that her patient had gone through. She saw the scars on her body. The dehydration and lack of sleep were very evident on her body.

"Your wolf is not strong right now," Kate said after she changed the bandage and replaced the IV, "That's why your body isn't healing like other wolves. You both need rest."

Stephanie already knew her wolf was weak. Her wolf had been completely exhausted by the fight.

"Okay," Kate said as she finished up. She looked down at her Luna and felt a wave of anger rush through her. It was common for wolves to be protective of their Luna. A Luna was the leader. Looking at the pack's Luna laying in pain with a huge wound angered her, "I'll be back later tonight. You need to rest, okay?"

Kate waited for the Luna to nod, but a couple of seconds passed and there was no reaction. She left the Luna and decided to find the alpha to update him on his mate's condition.
