Chapter 3

I woke up to my usual morning. The whole shower, read, eat, and then wait in the car for my brother and mother. While I was in my car I decided to text Vanessa a morning message. I thought of all the possible thing I could write and ended up writing how her beautiful smile compared to the sky. As I wrote the message I began to smile thinking about her. When I finished my message I was able to send it before my mom and brother arrived and saw me smiling at my cell phone. As we drove to school my mom was silent, surprising me and my brother.

If I had to pick to live on an island with my brother or mother I would pick my brother because even though he's intolerant and annoying, he doesn't judge or compare me to anyone else. So I would pick him over my mom a million times.

After spacing out and thinking of the possibilities of a natural disaster happening making me end up with my brother on a island I realized we were very close to school. I started packing my things and as my mom entered the gate she looked directly at my brother.

" Denise you can leave I'll pick you up in the afternoon around 4. Tell your brother's teachers he isn't going to school today." mom said to me as I got my stuff out.

" What??" asked my brother.

I just nodded and left before the massive, agressive war began of why my brother was not going to school. I walked in and saw Vanessa's mom sitting in front of the office. I was a bit afraid since its very unusual for her to be there. I walked up the stairs and placed my stuff. I saw Vanessa's book bag but no Vanessa in sight. I walked to the lunchroom and she wasn't there. I checked all three stairs and she wasn't there.

As I entered the bathroom, the last possible place she could be at, I checked if anyone was in there. I saw the last bathroom door closed.

" Vanessa?" I asked and I saw the persons feet move back as if they were trying to hide from me. "Vanessa is that you please answer me"

" Yeah?" said Vanessa in the lowest voice I could possibly ever heard from her.

As I heard her voice I turned around and got close to the door.

" Let me in Vanessa. If not I'll crawl in." I said to her.

I didn't hear her move from where she was so I ducked down and crawled into where she was. As I got up I saw her facing away from me in fear. She seemed afraid to look at me. Was I some kind of monster? Did I do something wrong? Was she mad at me? As these questions went through my mind I kneeled down in front of her and placed my hand on her knee.

" Love?" I asked with the softest and most lowest voice possible.

She began to cry softly and I wrapped my arms around her waist. I held her tightly and after a while she faced me and hugged me tightly. I caressed her hair and lifted her up as I sat down with her on my lap.

After a while her crying settled down and she just held on to me. I began to rock her as the bell rang. I didn't move for one single second regardless of being late or not even showing up to class. Vanessa needed me and I was going to be there for her every second. She then gripped my back tightly like if she didn't want to let me go for one second. Like if she didn't want anyone or anything separating me from her.

" Its okay Vanessa. I'm not leaving for one second regardless of the time" I told her in reassurance and her grip loosened slightly.
