The entire room is quite, so quite that you couldn’t tell anyone was breathing. The only noise being made was Makayla’s heart monitor beeping. It’s as if time froze when I came back and explained Makayla’s condition to everyone in the room. The silence was cut short when Louis chuckled. Everyone stared at him until he finally spoke.

“Makayla and I can safely label today as the worst birthday ever.” Louis’ eyes met mine. He’s about to cry, something none of us have seen in a very long time.

“I have to get out of here.” Louis said before getting out of the room. All of us knew better than to follow him. I walked over to Makayla’s bed and sat down next to her holding her hand.

Mickey had to go back to his room on hospital orders. Makayla still hasn’t woken up yet. We’ve all been in the same position until Louis came back into the room about ten minutes later. Our heads snapped towards the door.

“It’s hectic downstairs. The paparazzi and fans found us. They’re all outside the hospital right now giving the nurses and other visitors a headache. You’re mum, dad, and sisters are probably trying to get in now but can’t because of the crowd. Not the best time for them to show up, huh?”

“Louis I get what you’re trying to do but can you not do it? It’s annoying the fuck out of me.” Zayn snapped. If he didn’t say it I would.

“Thank you Zayn.” I told him while sitting down on the bench. The door opened with my parents and sisters behind it.

“Well Liam we’ll be outside if you need us.” Harry said pulling Niall and Zayn out and Zayn dragging Louis.

My parents and sisters came in.

“D-did the doctor come and speak to you? What’s wrong with her?” My mum asked.

“The doctor said that the cancer spread to her lungs and her brain. It’s only a while before it spreads to the rest of her body and they also found a small tumor growing in her brain. The doctor also said that she has a 10% chance of survival.” It broke my heart to break the news to my parents but it had to be done. They were going to hear it sooner or later.

“So there is a 90% chance we’ll lose her.” Ruth said with her voice cracking. I nod my head sadly.

“It’s not fucking fair.” I walked over to the wall facing it.

“Liam…” Nicola tried to calm me down.

“No, it’s not fucking fair at all. Makayla isn’t supposed to be like this. She shouldn’t be lying in a hospital bed again fight for her life again. She shouldn’t have been fighting for her life in the first place. She should be living her life; getting ready to be an actress. She should be living her dream not on her death bed. It’s! Not! Fucking! Fair!” I punched the wall in frustration so hard that I felt a lingering pain in my hand.

“Fucking hell!” I held my hand to my chest. I couldn’t move my fingers.

“Liam, are you okay?” My mum asked coming over to me.

“I think… I broke… my hand. The lads are outside. I’ll grab one of them and get it checked out. Just stay with Kayla.”

“Okay. Love you.” Mum said before I left. The boys are standing against the wall waiting.

“Hey Niall, come with me? You three can go inside.” I said before heading for the elevator.

*Makayla’s POV*

I’m dying. There’s a small chance that I can survive, a very small chance. Mum told me what Liam told her. She tried to tell me calmly but I pretty much figured it out. I feel kind of bad because I wanted something like this to happen. The worst part it is, I’m kind of happy, but a little sad. Just a tad bit.  At any given moment I could die and I’d affect all the people around me. I asked to be alone to let it sink in. I have some things I need to do first if I’m going to die. And I’m sure as hell not going to die in a hospital. I slowly sat up in the bed and grabbed the call button for the nurse.

“Hello, head nurse speaking how may I help you?” Someone spoke through the speaker.

“I need my nurse just for some minor assistance.” I asked.

“Okay she’ll be right there.” The voice spoke back. A few minutes later my nurse, Margot, came into the room.

“You needed me?” She asked closing the door.

“Yes actually…” I explained to her what I wanted to do.

“I’ll help you with that. Anything else you want me to help you with?”

“I don’t want to die here. I rather be at home. Is there any way you can talk to the doctor to let me go home? I don’t want my medicine because there is a small percentage that it won’t work so what’s the point of getting my family’s and friend’s hopes up?” It starting to get hard to breath and talk so I try to talk slowly.

“Okay I’ll talk to your doctor and go get the things that you wanted okay?”

“Okay. I’m actually going to take a nap okay?” I rested on the pillow and closed my eyes.
