All I could see was the tree, and it was zooming in like a camera.  I squeezed my eyes closed, unable to prevent the inevitable.  I wasn't going to survive this...

I didn't even remember it happening.  There was a numb pain circulating the left side of my body, and I was choking to regain my breath.  My horse was gone, but I could still hear the sound of hooves.  The white stallion, I realised vaguely.  I'd forgotten about him pursuing us. Though when the horse stopped beside me, I didn't open my eyes—I hadn't even known they were still closed.  I didn't want to see the stallion trampling me to death.  Hands touched my face, and I finally opened my eyes.  I wanted to sigh with relief, but I still couldn't quite catch my breath.

Aiden.

I would have never thought that I would be glad to see him again.  His eyes were wide again, and he was saying something, shaking me.  I couldn't hear him, nor could I feel anything more than pinpricks in my left arm.  Aiden sat me up against the tree.  The tree I'd just run into.  How lame.

I wanted to laugh at how ironic this situation was, but the truth was that I was lucky it was.  I'd asked Aiden to leave me alone, and he hadn't, and I was thankful for that.  If he had, I didn't know what would have happened to me.

He was holding my chin now, lightly slapping my face every now and then, and I grasped that I was staring at him quite blatantly.  He really was cute, and mild jealousy of Mia interrupted my scrutiny.

He was talking again, and I tried to hear what he was saying, but there was only a ringing inside my ears, vibrating through my brain. Gravity suddenly disappeared, and I was lifted into the air, Aiden's strong arms carrying me.  It was kind of nice.  Until he tried to get me on the horse.  I didn't want to get back on, especially after what had just happened, but I felt too weak to protest. He climbed up behind me, and we started off at a bone-jarring trot.  My ears popped without warning, and all sound rushed in and made my head spin.  I was moaning; how embarrassing!  Aiden clicked his horse into a canter, which was even more buoyant than Topaz's.  I gritted my teeth and looked down, where Aiden's right arm was wound around my waist.

Oh, shit!  I was still basically naked, but then I noticed that Aiden had pulled off his own button-up shirt to put it on me.  When had that happened?  Never mind, I didn't really care.

The ride home felt like a lifetime, and with each third pound of Aiden's horse, feeling crept back into my flesh.  I was grinding my teeth against the pain by the time we arrived at the stables at home.  My eyes were closed and my breathing quick.  Blood rushed behind my ears, trying to keep up with the pounding of my heart.  And my arm.

"It hurts!" I whimpered when Aiden helped me off the horse.  He didn't waste time and left his horse just as he was.  He picked me up again and started carrying me to the house.
