9:42am| Portland

“In this class, we will be learning about numerous types of Physiological Disorders and their treatments, symptoms, and things like that.” The professor droned on and on, boring half of the students. The other half were actively listening, taking notes, and devoting their attention to the lesson.

She was one of the listeners, furiously writing notes in her pad; looking up at the chalk board ever so often.

He was one of the few dozen that were half asleep, his head nodding whenever Dr. Pearson shot him a glare.

The bell rang, and she stuffed her books in her bag; sliding out of her seat.

He grabbed his books and sauntered out of the classroom, forcing his sunglasses on his face.

College classes for her were a hassle, she studied for test late at night, and she was constantly writing and re-writing papers.  For him, it was a breeze, he aced every test, and he spent an equal amount of time studying.

She pushed open the door to a café near the college; it was busy with students shuffling around. She never really liked coffee or tea, she just came to soak in the newfound college life. She placed herself in a booth at the back of the room. She sat down, ordering a Peppermint Mocha

Later on that night, she lay awake, thinking of the events that took place that day.

The night she was told the news, she didn’t know exactly how to take it. She didn’t know whether to cry, or be to be happy that he would be in a better place. She watched her six year old brother, Jason, play with an action figure, making noises of explosions. She didn’t know if he knew exactly what was going on, she hoped in didn’t know; it would crush him. A sigh escaped her lips as she wet them with her tongue and cried herself to sleep.

She groaned as the sun crept into her bedroom, throwing the blanket off of her body. Jason came in and jumped on her stomach, bouncing up and down; screaming for her to wake up.

“Wake up, Noah! Wake up!” He grinned, showing off his missing front tooth. Noah smiled and patted his blonde hair, shoving him off of her bed. He scrambled away and left her wondering why he was this excited for a funeral.

She dragged her feet to the bathroom, showering and brushing her teeth. She stepped into a black dress and brushed her brown, hair into a simple up-do.

“Dearly Beloved, we are gathered here to pay our respects to Chris Pines.” The priest continued on and on, boring Noah to death.

Her feet were sore from the heels her mother lent her, and the grass wasn’t the best terrain to be wearing them on.

Sooner or later, the shovel was passed around to pile dirt onto her father’s casket. When it came to her, she stood still, staring into the ten foot deep hole in the ground. It wasn’t until Jason shook her that she took the tool, dumping dirt in the hole.

Later on Noah continued to get empty condolences and comforts. She managed to escape to her room, only being interrupted by her cousin Miranda bringing her a plate of food.

“You need to move on, Noah.” Miranda placed the plate on her nightstand, rubbing her back.

“Don’t tell me how to live my life.” She barely whispered, tracing her bed spread.

This drove her cousin to leave and Noah returning to her window gazing.

It had been two days since the funeral and Noah’s Uncle Leeroy was just now leaving.

“Call me if you need anything, dear!” Aunt Bitsy, Uncle Leeroy's wife,  turned and faced Lynn.

Lynn practically shoved Aunt Bitsy in the car, and slammed it shut.

"We'll probably never see her again."
