Throwing my duffel bag in the backseat, I tried to calm my rapidly beating heart. I was leaving. I was actually doing it. I glanced back at the house quickly and couldn't help but sigh just a little. This felt like a dream. Of course I wasn't leaving in the usual way. You know, with your parents tearing up a little bit as they hugged you goodbye and set you off to wherever you were going. No, I was just leaving. No warning, no plan. I was making my own decisions for once. And it felt really fucking good.
Birds were chirping loudly and the sun was just about to rise. This was my favorite part of the day. It was the part of the day that made me feel... real, if that even makes sense. With everyone still sleeping inside their houses, nothing going on around me. I was calm. It was like all my problems just melted away. Like I had nothing to worry about.
After shoving my things into the car, I jumped into the front seat.
"Come on baby, you got this," I whispered encouragingly to the old car, praying that the engine wouldn't start too loudly. Fortunately, it only made a low hum, making me relax back into my seat. It was going to be a long ride after all.
