As you hurried down the hallway, you ran into something, hard. You found yourself suddenly on the floor on top of Ponyboy. You got up quickly as you felt your ears turn red. You apologized over and over as you two walked to the park. When you got to the park, you guys climbed up a tree and people watched. The recent event kept playing over and over in your head. You felt so embarrassed! You were watching a small kid with black choppy hair reading a book under a tree when you felt a light tap on the shoulder.
"Hey, I see a couple of my friends. You want to go meet them?" Ponyboy asked hopefully.
"Sure! Sounds great!" you replied. As you two walked towards two boys passing a football back and forth, you felt a little nervous. You always felt that way when you met new people.
"Hi, my name is Riley. What are yours?" you asked awkwardly.
" My name's Two-bit, and his name is Johnny." answered the guy wearing a mickey mouse shirt as he pointed to a smaller guy with black hair and a denim jacket. You learned that Johnny's parents were also abusive, something in common. You, Ponyboy, Two-bit, and Johnny talked and tossed around the football for a while until the sunset.
"Hey guys," Ponyboy exclaimed suddenly," It's getting dark. You want to head out to the drive-in?"
"Sure!" you and the two other boys said in unison. As you guys started walking, you felt a shooting pain run up your right leg and you stumbled back a bit. No one noticed you stumble because you were walking in the back of the group. After a few more steps, you felt the shooting pain again, only it was sharper and more drawn out. You squealed a little which made the boys turn around.
"Are you okay?" Ponyboy asked worriedly.
"Yeah," you replied, "I just have these shooting pains in my legs I get once in a while from my flat feet. It's not much 'cause I'm used to it, but I can't walk anymore. This usually just happens at home so I just sit down, but now, I'm not really sure what to do."
Ponyboy walked up to you and lifted you up carefully. He set you on his back and you held onto his shoulders while lying your head on his neck.
      "Better?" he asked thoughtfully.
"Better," you replied quietly as you bounced a little from Ponyboy's steps. Your eyelids started getting heavier and heavier as you fell into a light sleep.

You felt a slight jostle as Ponyboy set you on a chair.
"Huh?" you asked sleepily while you began to wake up. Where the heck am I? You thought as you looked around. You saw Johnny sitting next to a tough-looking guy and watching the movie intently, you saw Ponyboy talking to a handsome guy wearing a DX shirt, the guy next to him was wearing the same shirt and was drinking a coke. Two-bit was nowhere to be found. Ponyboy looked over and noticed that you had woken up and started introducing you to everybody. The tough guy's name was Dallas Winston. The guy that Ponyboy was talking to was his brother, Sodapop. Sodapop's friend's name was Steven Randle, he worked at the DX with Soda. Ponyboy took you to go get some popcorn and Coke while he told you all about his friends. They all seemed like nice people, except Dally. You decided that you wanted to stay away from him. When you got back, you sat in between Pony and Johnny and finished the movie.
When the movie was finished, Steve ran away to someplace Dally went to his friend Buck's place, and you walked home with Johnny, Pony, and Soda. You guys left Johnny at his house since you didn't hear his parents fighting. Then it was just you, Ponyboy, and Soda. It was very silent. Almost too silent.
That's when you heard an engine revving and bright lights coming from behind you. Soda looked at both you and Ponyboy and his eyes clearly said: run. That is exactly what you did. As you three started running, the socs in their car were gaining on you. When you were just one block away from the Curtis residence, the socs caught up. They stopped and got out of the car, five of them.
"What are you doing, angel, hanging out with scumbags like these losers?" one of the socs asked tauntingly.
"I don't really know," you answered, leaving Pony and Soda dumbfounded, "maybe I should just go with you guys." You turned to Ponyboy and Sodapop and waved. As you started walking closer to the lead soc, you could see a look of triumph on his face. He reached out to grab your hand when you twisted his arm behind his back and poked him directly in the eyes. He fell to the ground holding his eyes as the other socs started walking, some towards you, some away from you. You ran up to the nearest soc and kicked him behind the knee making his legs give way, and then punched him in the throat, making him choke a little. The next soc that came up to you got kicked in the crotch and slapped across his face. The last soc that dared to fight you got kicked in the kneecaps and, as he fell, kneed in the face. You started to walk towards Soda and Pony when one of the socs started to get up. You stepped on him and left behind one scaredy-cat soc that ran away, and four beaten-up socs on the ground next to their car.
