I stumbled up the steps to my house.  With tears in my eyes, I unlocked the door and slammed it shut. I made my way to my room, slamming that shut also. I attempted at a deep breath as I slid down my door hugging my knees, and letting the tears fall. I didn’t understand how this could happen to me.

I was about to go through the previous week in my head, when I was interrupted by a phone call. I slid the unlock button on my phone not recognizing the number. “Hello?”   I asked trying to sound like I wasn’t crying. I got up as the unfamiliar voice answered me.

“You’re Anna?”

“Yes. Who is this?”

“My name is Jamie; I’m Alexa’s best friend. I felt more tears coming on.

“Why are you calling me? How did you even get my number?”

“That isn’t the issue right now. You need to stop treating her the way you should be treated. Like crap. You’re a stupid nobody and you need to get a life.” By now, the tears were falling harder than ever.

“Never call this number again. Oh, and you can tell Alexa I’m glad our friendship is over. The way she ended it is ridiculous and-“I had to stop and take a deep breath. “And I hope she has a great life.” I hung up and threw my phone across my room. It hit my calendar crashing to the floor. I sat on the floor leaning against my door, sobbing. My best friend just “dumped” for some guy.

Someone knocked on my door. “What?!?!”  I felt bad for the way I yelled, but I wasn’t in the mood to talk to anybody.

“Honey, it’s me, Maria.” Maria was the nanny. I had a little brother who’s three. His name is Toby. I took a breath and opened the door. She looked at me and sat down next to me, opening her arms for a hug. I gladly accepted and cried into her shoulder. “Anna, I know you may think it’s the end of the world, but it’s not. You’ll be fine. It’ll be hard right now, but you’ll get through it.  Everything happens for a reason, right?” I nodded and started to calm myself down.  I stood up, offering Maria a hand. She accepted and we walked downstairs to the kitchen. I sat down and Maria handed me a cold ice pack for my puffy eyes. I took it and put it under my eye, switching it every few seconds.

“Where’s Toby?” I asked.

“He’s asleep. It’s kind of late for his nap, but I decided to let him play outside for a while considering the weather. Greyson Chance was on Ellen today. I recorded it for you.”

I smiled. Greyson Chance was my inspiration. “Thanks I’m going to go watch it.”I started to walk out of the room, but she stopped me.

“Here. It makes me feel better when I’m down.” I took the glass she was holding and looked in it. It was just hot chocolate with two big marshmallows floating inside of it. I smiled and said thanks, and went into the living room to watch my favorite person on my favorite show.
